Senior Bulk Underwriter

Position Summary

This role requires expert Non-QM mortgage underwriting and credit knowledge, strong organizational skills, and a proven track record of excellent client service, sound judgment, and problem-solving. The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams (Credit, Capital Markets, Sales, IT) and external partners (third-party service providers, sellers).

Responsibilities and Duties

Credit Policy
  • Act as the subject matter expert for internal and external parties in the accurate interpretation of Redwood, Agency, and investor underwriting guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the Compliance Officer to ensure adherence to federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Aspire Credit Team to review guidelines and identify and recommend credit policy and underwriting guideline revisions.

Provide Internal Bulk Underwriting Resources
  • Maintain operational procedures and make suggested updates that optimize workflow efficiency for the bulk credit review process while providing excellent customer service.
  • Serve as the first-level escalation point for guideline and loan program scenarios, exception requests, appraisal reviews, and related process questions.
  • Provide summary reports and daily updates on all Aspire bulk transactions. Excel knowledge (ex. of pivot tables and vlookups) as well as basic power point skills are requirements.
  • Monitor productivity to ensure performance standards are maintained, including underwriting audits.

Coordinate with Third-Party Resources
  • Coordinate with and provide feedback to third-party due diligence firms to ensure quality loan reviews, acceptable service level standards, and clear communication.
  • Participate in evaluating third-party services that manage loan risk and enhance productivity, including appraisal products, fraud and verification services, and credit evaluation tools.

Support for Securitization and Whole Loan Sales
  • Provide rebuttals and corresponding documentation as needed for securitizations or loan sales to third parties.

Support of Process and Technology Development
  • Provide recommendations for workflow efficiencies consistent with policies and process flows.
  • Coordinate documentation and feedback with business analysts or project managers to support the development of automated workflows for efficient, scalable operations.

Required Experience & Education
  • Minimum of 7+ years of recent, direct Non-QM underwriting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree recommended.
  • Expert underwriting knowledge and extensive experience with Non-QM and Jumbo mortgage products.
  • Technologically savvy, with the ability to work across varied systems; proficient with loan origination systems, automated underwriting engines, and electronic document management.
  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and charts; able to create and edit content in Word and PowerPoint for presentations, training, and reporting required.
  • High attention to detail and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent client service skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, diplomacy, and professionalism.
  • Occasional travel required.


A reasonable estimate of the total compensation range for this role is $92,000-$120,000. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certification, and other factors.
