About the role

  • D-Wave is seeking a Senior Benchmarking Researcher to join our Algorithms, Performance, and Tools team. In this role, you will lead research and development efforts within the Hybrid Development Program, focusing on algorithmic improvements and system performance benchmarking. You will conduct independent, high-impact research, design and execute experiments, and communicate results across technical teams and stakeholders. Success in this role requires strong algorithmic intuition, proficiency in Python, and the ability to translate complex ideas into practical implementations. You'll work at the forefront of quantum computing, contributing to the performance and scalability of systems used by leading organizations across industry, government, and academia.

What you'll do

  • Develop and implement novel quantum-classical hybrid algorithms
  • Lead research and development activities focused on benchmarking, characterization, and performance optimization of our quantum computing systems
  • Reproduce experiments and results from scientific literature
  • Quickly and critically review the latest benchmarks in literature, gauge its validity, and communicate findings at varying levels of technicality
  • Design and execute experiments to characterize QPU contribution to different hybrid algorithms
  • Perform in-depth analysis of experimental results over time to identify trends, inform strategy, and guide system-level improvements
  • Communicate findings internally and externally
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with experts to integrate multidisciplinary insights into R&D initiatives
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship within the team


About You

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 4+ years of experience in a full-time research position
  • Proficiency in Python; experience with C++ is an asset
  • Strong foundation in algorithm development with experience in machine learning, Monte Carlo methods, and/or statistical physics
  • Proven ability to interpret and implement complex algorithms from scientific literature
  • Skilled in conducting independent research and algorithm development
  • Skilled in exploratory data analysis
  • Proficient in technical and scientific writing, with experience communicating results to diverse audiences

During the interview process, your Recruiter will explain how our rubrics work across all our total rewards (base, equity, bonus, perks, benefit, culture) offerings. The base salary for this role is targeted between $140,000 - $170,000 CAD per year. The final offer is determined by your proficiencies within this level.
