Job Description:Job Summary:The Senior Analytics Engineer is a key role to help our team establish modern data and analytics capabilities in order to help corporate legal departments work smarter, faster, and more cost effectively. The role is responsible for architecting and maintaining a local data environment; they translate complex business logic into modular, version-controlled Python/SQL code. This role ensures that all client reporting derived is reproducible, secure, and consistent, rather than relying on fragmented Excel spreadsheets.

- Code Quality Assurance: Review requests from non-technical consultants. Validate that generated code is clean, documented, and secure before merging into production repositories.
- Environment Management: Configure local dev environments for consultants (e.g., Ollama, DuckDB drivers) to ensure security compliance.
- Metric Definition: Translate business requirements from Practice leadership and Senior Consultants into stable SQL definitions (e.g., in a models/ folder if using dbt).
- Documentation Maintenance: Ensure every code module has clear comments and links to client-facing reports; maintain the internal "Data Dictionary" that AI tools use to understand our data.
Qualifications & Characteristics- Technical Proficiency: Good command of SQL (Postgres/DuckDB) and Python scripting. Hands-on experience with dbt, plotly, and/or related tooling ideal.
- Version Control: Knowledge of Git flows (Commits, Branching, PRs) and demonstrated ability to maintain strong version control over projects.
- Data Modeling: Ability to normalize messy client data (Parquet/CSV) into clean schemas without losing nuance.
- Soft Skills: Ability to explain technical limitations ("We can't do this in one Jupyter notebook cell") to non-technical stakeholders without sounding dismissive; ability to propose creative solutions based on known constraints.
- Familiarity with Jupyter notebooks, Quarto, Ollama, Cursor IDE, or VS Code a plus.
- Experience with established software engineering best practices as well as modern techniques (e.g., Claude Code) preferred.
- Knowledge of LLM prompting/privacy best practices a plus.
