Full Job Description
A career as a Senior Advisor, Consumer Protection Compliance in the Retail and Commercial Compliance team at National Bank means acting as a specialist in consumer protection regulations. In this role, you will have a tangible impact on the organization through your expertise in regulatory compliance, your experience implementing compliance frameworks, and your knowledge of the Bank Act and related regulatory requirements.

Your role
  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the Consumer Protection Compliance Framework to ensure alignment with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and maintain effective governance through policies, standards, controls, monitoring activities, reporting processes, and escalation mechanisms related to consumer protection.
  • Ensure the consistent application of consumer protection requirements and the management of associated compliance risks in collaboration with business lines and various control functions.
  • Advise stakeholders on the interpretation of laws, regulations, and supervisory expectations while providing strategic guidance on regulatory and conduct risks.
  • Represent the Bank in interactions with regulatory authorities, including information requests, examinations, audits, mandatory reporting, and industry consultations.
  • Develop investigation processes, risk metrics, dashboards, and training programs that promote a culture of fairness, transparency, and responsible conduct.

Your team

The Risk Management sector is composed of specialists who work in an agile, proactive, and collaborative manner to seize opportunities, respond to regulatory expectations, and continuously improve risk management practices.

Within the Compliance department, you are part of a team of three colleagues and report to the Senior Director, Consumer Protection. Our team stands out for its subject matter expertise, collaborative spirit, and ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders to support the Bank's objectives while ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations. You will play a key role in shaping and evolving the Bank's consumer protection framework.

Requirements
  • Hold a university degree and between 6 and 10 years of experience in regulatory compliance, legal affairs, or risk management within a financial institution.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of Canadian consumer protection legislation and the regulatory environment applicable to financial institutions.
  • Have experience implementing compliance frameworks, governance structures, or risk management programs.
  • Possess experience managing relationships with regulatory authorities, including examinations and regulatory reviews.
  • Be able to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical, sustainable solutions that meet organizational needs.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills with senior leadership and experience producing executive-level reporting.
