Full Job Description
The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are currently seeking a Director, Accounting Operations to join our Accounting and Finance team in Seattle, WA. This role leads governance, controls, compliance, and process integrity activities supporting Bill-to-Pay Operations. Serves as the primary subject matter expert for vendor master governance, banking controls, audit readiness, control monitoring, process documentation, and Accounts Payable (AP)-related testing activities. Partners with the Bill-to-Pay Operations leaders to maintain a strong control
environment, improve payment accuracy, reduce operational risk, and support scalable business processes Additional responsibilities include:

Vendor Master Governance & Banking Controls
  • Own vendor onboarding, maintenance, and vendor master governance processes.
  • Review and approve vendor master and banking changes in accordance with established controls and policies.
  • Perform periodic vendor master reviews to identify duplicate vendors, inaccurate records, inactive vendors, and data integrity concerns.
  • Partner with Treasury, Procurement, and AP Operations to maintain effective vendor and
  • payment controls.

Controls, Monitoring & Risk Management
  • Develop and maintain control monitoring processes across Bill-to-Pay operations.
  • Monitor and report on duplicate payments, erroneous payments, control exceptions, and high-risk transactions.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and recommend corrective actions to address payment errors and control failures.
  • Establish and maintain control metrics, exception reporting, and governance dashboards.
  • Partner with AP Leads to strengthen internal controls, improve process discipline, and reduce operational risk.

Compliance, Audit & Governance
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for AP-related internal and external audit activities.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and supporting evidence for key controls.
  • Track audit findings, control deficiencies, and remediation activities through closure.
  • Support compliance with company policies, delegated authority requirements, and regulatory obligations.

SOP Ownership & Process Documentation
  • Own Accounts Payable standard operating procedures, process maps, control narratives, and governance documentation.
  • Ensure documentation remains current and aligned with operational and system changes.
  • Promote process standardization, consistency, and adherence to documented procedures.

Product Testing & Business Readiness
  • Support testing and validation activities for ERP enhancements, workflow changes, automation initiatives, and new technology solutions.
  • Develop and execute test scenarios and document results.
  • Validate control impacts associated with system and process changes.
  • Support implementation readiness and stabilization activities.

Month-End Close Support
  • Support AP-related control reviews during month-end close.
  • Assist with accrual validation, compliance reviews, and close-related documentation requirements.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

Education & Professional Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Accounts Payable, Accounting Operations, Internal Controls,
    Audit, Compliance, or Shared Services.
    - Experience supporting audits, compliance programs, and control monitoring activities.
    - Experience operating independently and influencing cross-functional stakeholders without direct
    authority.

Functional Expertise
  • Strong understanding of vendor master governance, payment controls, banking controls, fraud prevention, and internal controls.
  • Experience identifying and resolving duplicate payments, erroneous payments, and process control gaps.
  • Knowledge of AP processes, month-end close activities, and financial controls.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.

Systems & Business Process Knowledge
  • Experience supporting ERP implementations, system enhancements, testing, and process documentation.
  • Experience developing SOPs, process maps, control narratives, and governance documentation.
  • Experience with D365, Acumatica, Oracle, SAP, Workday, or similar ERP platforms preferred.

Leadership & Professional Skills
  • Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and sound professional judgment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while operating with minimal supervision.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert for AP controls, governance, and compliance.

The pay range for this position is $80,100 - $119,300 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
