The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing complex accounting activities, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, and supporting accurate and timely financial reporting. This position plays a key role in the month-end and year-end close processes and may provide guidance to junior accounting staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain general ledger accounts and accounting records.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and adjusting entries.
- Perform and review monthly account reconciliations, including bank, balance sheet, and intercompany accounts.
- Lead or support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Analyze account balances and investigate unusual or complex variances.
- Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management activities as needed.
- Prepare audit schedules and serve as a key contact during external and internal audits.
- Assist with tax reporting and other regulatory filings.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and systems.
- Provide guidance and training to staff accountants and other accounting personnel.
- Assist management with special projects and financial analysis.
- Ensure accounting deadlines and reporting requirements are consistently met.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3-7 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Experience with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Strong general ledger and account reconciliation experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics/Great Plains, SAP, Sage, or similar.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- Experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff.
- Public accounting or audit experience is a plus.
- Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Industry-specific accounting experience preferred.
Compensation: $80,000-90,000Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
