Full Job Description
As Philz continues to grow and expand, the strength of our accounting foundation matters more than ever. We're looking for a Senior Accountant who can bring technical expertise, sound judgment, and leadership to complex areas of the close and financial reporting process. You'll partner across FP&A, Operations, and Supply Chain to translate financial activity into meaningful business insight, while strengthening controls, improving processes, and supporting audits as the company scales. You'll also serve as a trusted technical resource and help develop the next level of talent across the accounting team.

This role is currently remote and must be based within the Greater Los Angeles area. Our teams will return to a hybrid office environment in late 2026.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Close, Reporting & General Ledger
  • Own the full month-end and quarter-end close process for assigned functional areas, ensuring accuracy and adherence to the close calendar.
  • Prepare and/or review complex journal entries, including revenue recognition, lease accounting (ASC 842), and stock-based compensation, as applicable.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations prepared by staff/junior accountants; ensure reconciling items are researched and cleared timely.
  • Oversee store-level revenue and COGS accounting, including gift card/loyalty liability tracking and multi-location consolidation.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow support) and supporting variance commentary for leadership.
Audit, Controls & Technical Accounting
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors; prepare technical memos and audit PBC schedules.
  • Lead or support SOX control execution and documentation for assigned processes; help remediate identified deficiencies.
  • Research and document accounting treatment for new transactions, contracts, or store growth initiatives (new units, re-franchising, M&A support as needed).
  • Identify, design, and implement process and systems improvements to increase close efficiency and controls maturity.
Team Development
  • Train, review, and develop Staff and Junior Accountants; act as a technical resource for the broader accounting team.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA strongly preferred (active or in progress).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including public accounting/audit and multi-unit retail or restaurant industry experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including revenue recognition and lease accounting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems (NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar); experience with reporting/BI tools a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple close workstreams independently and meet firm deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills; comfortable presenting to finance leadership.
  • Experience mentoring or informally leading junior staff.

**Compensation & Benefits

A reasonable estimate of the annual salary for this role is $115,000 to $130,000. Please note that the base pay will vary based on qualifications, previous experience, and work location.
