Title:

Senior Accountant

KBR is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Senior Accountant in Huntsville, AL or Houston, TX. This role is responsible for supporting key corporate accounting activities, including general ledger accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting principles, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across the finance organization.

This position is also involved in accounting and reporting related to the consolidated impact of foreign currency movements, cumulative foreign currency transaction adjustments, hedge accounting, debt accounting, and various special projects and financial analyses. In support of these activities, the position assists with general ledger accounting and the preparation of reports and disclosure data required for the company's global operations.

This role interacts regularly with peers, Finance leadership, and cross functional business partners in a fast paced, collaborative environment. The successful candidate will be expected to take on additional responsibilities and special projects as business needs evolve.

Trinzic is being established as an independent public company through the planned separation of KBR's Mission Technology Solutions business, which is expected to be completed on January 4, 2027. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries in accordance with company accounting policies.
  • Prepare and complete monthly account reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Assist with month-end and quarter-end close activities, ensuring deadlines are met with accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger in accordance with company accounting policies and US GAAP.
  • Support variance analysis and assist with ad hoc financial reporting and data requests.
  • Assist in analyzing and reporting foreign currency gain/loss transactions.
  • Assist with determining balance sheet and cash flow risk exposures, documenting hedge relationships, assessing hedge effectiveness, and reporting activity.
  • Assist the FX team in research and collaborate with other departments on foreign currency aspects of accounting processes.
  • Record debt-related journal entries, including loan proceeds, repayments, interest expense, and debt issuance costs.
  • Prepare and maintain debt amortization schedules.
  • Partner with finance teams across the MTS organization to support financial reporting and accounting initiatives.
  • Ensure data accuracy within accounting systems and assist with system maintenance, data cleanup efforts, and process support activities.
  • Maintain organized supporting documentation for accounting transactions and reconciliations.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by providing supporting documentation and responding to information requests.
  • Support compliance with internal controls and established accounting procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and increase efficiency through the use of technology and automation tools, including Excel.

Basic Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-6 years of accounting experience with hands-on responsibility for journal entries, account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities.

Financial Expertise:

  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and US GAAP.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, researching variances, and maintaining general ledger accounts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and advanced data analysis functions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with finance and business stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying issues and driving solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint, Cognos, FCCS, or similar ERP and financial reporting systems.
  • Experience supporting accounting operations within a government contracting environment.
  • Familiarity with FAR, DFARS, and CAS regulations.
  • Experience working within established internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Experience identifying process improvements and leveraging technology or automation tools to enhance efficiency.
