Senior Accountant- Fixed AssetsIrvine, CAAbout the roleAre you an accounting professional who is passionate about accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence? The Senior Project Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the Finance Team's project accounting framework, ensuring accurate tracking of capital projects, proper fixed asset accounting, and timely financial reporting.
Based in our Irvine office on a hybrid basis, you'll help support the management of capital spend, partner with Project Managers, and uphold financial integrity across the project lifecycle. Your work ensures capital projects are executed efficiently while adhering to U.S. GAAP, internal policies, and corporate governance.
What you'll be doingAs a member of the Project Accounting team, you'll support the financial management of capital projects and fixed assets from initiation through completion. Your responsibilities will include:
Project Accounting- Maintain end-to-end financial oversight of capital projects, including project setup, budgeting, cost tracking, and closeout.
- Review and monitor project costs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with approved budgets.
- Partner with Project Managers to analyze project performance, validate costs, and ensure appropriate capitalization.
- Prepare monthly project reports, identifying variances and providing insights for operational decision-making.
- Ensure project accounting practices are consistent with internal controls, company policies, and GAAP requirements.
Fixed Assets- Oversee all aspects of fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.
- Maintain the fixed asset subledger and ensure accuracy through monthly reconciliations.
- Validate asset classifications and project-to-asset transitions during project closeout.
- Support annual impairment assessments and audit requests related to fixed assets.
Month-End Close & Reporting- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and project roll-forward schedules during month-end close.
- Prepare monthly capital expenditure reporting and analysis for management.
- Assist in the preparation of internal reporting packages related to capital projects, fixed assets, and depreciation.
Cross-Functional Support & Systems- Collaborate with Procurement, Engineering, Project Management, and FP&A to ensure data accuracy and process efficiency.
- Support Workday ERP enhancements and participate in systems testing for project and asset modules.
- Identify opportunities to streamline project accounting and fixed asset processes to improve efficiency and control.
What you'll bringThink you could make a difference here? We're looking for someone who cares about doing things the right way and ensuring financial accuracy. You will also bring some of the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA-track preferred.
- 3-5+ years of relevant experience in project accounting, fixed asset accounting, or related fields.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly capitalization rules and fixed asset accounting.
- Experience in telecommunications, technology, or project-based environments preferred.
- Experience working with ERP systems preferred (Workday experience a plus).
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and communication skills.
- High integrity and commitment to strong internal controls.
