Full Job Description
Position Summary:

Hillwood Energy is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our growing team in Fort Worth, Texas. This role will play a key part in the preparation, analysis, and integrity of financial reporting across a diverse portfolio of domestic and international energy investments. The Senior Accountant will support accurate and timely financial reporting through technical accounting research, financial statement preparation, internal controls, compliance reporting, and cross-functional collaboration with Finance, Treasury, Financial Planning & Analysis, Tax, and operational stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will possess solid accounting fundamentals, analytical curiosity, business acumen, sound judgment, and a continuous improvement mindset. This individual will be able to connect accounting and financial reporting activities to the broader operational and economic drivers of the business while helping strengthen reporting processes, enhance financial controls, and support informed decision-making across a dynamic energy platform.

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and General Accounting

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, footnote disclosures, and supporting schedules for multiple legal entities in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations, income statement variance analyses, and account analyses to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain recurring schedules and rollforwards for significant accounts and equity balances.
  • Prepare quarterly lender covenant calculations, compliance certificates, and supporting documentation.


Analysis, Audit and Controls

  • Analyze financial results and provide insights to management regarding trends, variances, and business performance, including the preparation of reporting packages for executive leadership.
  • Support the annual financial statement audit and coordinate deliverables with external auditors.
  • Research and apply accounting guidance and evaluate the reporting implications of new transactions, business initiatives, and evolving accounting standards.
  • Support the design, documentation, execution, and continuous improvement of internal controls over financial reporting.


Systems, Process Improvement and Business Partnership

  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation initiatives that enhance the quality, timeliness, and accessibility of financial information.
  • Participate in accounting system implementations, upgrades, and optimization efforts.
  • Develop and maintain reporting tools, dashboards, and data models to support financial analysis and decision-making.
  • Partner closely with Accounting, Treasury, FP&A, Tax, and Operations on reporting requirements, special projects, and business initiatives.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment while delivering accurate, high-quality work.


Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong accounting fundamentals and working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to understand operational and economic drivers, evaluate financial impacts, and connect accounting outcomes to broader business objectives.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking capabilities, with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to data integrity and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret and apply language contained within contracts, governing documents, financing agreements, and other business arrangements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey financial information effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities while consistently meeting critical deadlines.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential information.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with financial reporting and accounting or ERP systems; exposure to data visualization or dashboard tools is preferred.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA license or progress toward CPA licensure preferred.
  • 2-5 years of progressive accounting experience required.
  • Relevant oil and gas industry exposure required, gained through public accounting work with oil and gas clients and/or direct accounting experience within the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience with oil and gas accounting concepts, partnership structures, and multi-entity financial reporting preferred.
  • Experience preparing or supporting financial statements and related disclosures in accordance with U.S. GAAP preferred.
  • Experience leveraging emerging technologies and AI-enabled tools to enhance research, analysis, reporting efficiency, and overall productivity.
