Responsibilities

  • Record and calculate sales, cost of sales, land acquisition, and accruals.
  • Monitor, record, and reconcile cash activities such as banking and wire transfers.
  • Prepare entries for consolidation and month-end closing processes.
  • Liaise with auditors to provide information and respond to queries.
  • Reconcile accounts, including intercompany transactions and working capital.
  • Collaborate with various departments on budgets, purchase orders, and reclassifications.
  • Evaluate and implement internal controls to ensure compliance.

Job Description

Overview:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for completing monthly accounting, job cost management and financial reporting for selected land projects and related entities. They will be responsible to critically evaluate on-going performance, efficiency, reporting, and internal controls, Joint Venture reporting for both Operations and Finance. In addition to these duties, they will be working on cross-functional teams and collaborating with other groups.

Key Deliverables:
  • Record and calculate sales, cost of sales, land acquisition, and accruals.
  • Monitor, record, and reconcile cash activity (banking, wire transfers, loan draws, capital calls, etc.).
  • Track property taxes and prepare payments.
  • Prepare entries for consolidation, elimination, sales billings, reimbursements, and month-end closing.
  • Reconcile accounts, including intercompany transactions and working capital.
  • Collaborate with internal departments on purchase orders, change orders, budgets, and reclasses.
  • Handle special projects (procedures, forms, templates, reconciliations).
  • Evaluate and implement internal controls, policies, and procedures for compliance.
  • Review and update process documentation regularly.
  • Liaise with auditors, providing requested information and responding to queries.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end working papers, including balance sheet reconciliation and journal entries.
  • Verify accuracy of land development budgets across systems and department reports.
  • Prepare reports, tax filings, and general ledger account analysis.


What You Bring:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field required. CPA or CPA-track a plus. An equivalent combination of education and directly relevant land/homebuilding accounting experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in financial reporting and working paper preparation, full-cycle and job cost accounting.
  • Developed business acumen and willingness to learn, including an exceptional work ethic and goal-oriented perspective.
  • Self-motivated, comfortable taking initiative, possesses superior organizational skills and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in an efficient and effective manner to meet deadlines and work with multiple departments/managers and assignments simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Utilize intermediate Excel formulas to develop ad-hoc templates and streamline processes for automation.
