Full Job Description

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated Scientist 3 to join Genentech's Translational Medicine OMNI team in South San Francisco. The successful candidate will contribute to the MS translational research program by integrating human clinical data with advanced molecular profiling and omics technologies to drive biomarker discovery and disease biology insights. This role sits at the intersection of clinical development and translational science — the ideal candidate is comfortable working with clinical biospecimens, interpreting high-dimensional datasets, and contributing findings that directly inform clinical trial design and molecule progression.

As an integral member of our dynamic team, you will:

  • Contribute to the discovery and validation of MS disease biomarkers and therapeutic targets by integrating human clinical sample data with molecular phenotyping and multi-omics approaches.

  • Design and execute translational research experiments using clinical biospecimens (e.g., CSF, PBMCs, whole blood, serum) to investigate mechanisms of disease heterogeneity, target engagement, and disease progression relevant to MS.

  • Analyze and interpret high-dimensional datasets from clinical samples, including single-cell RNA-seq, CITE-seq, bulk RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, and/or proteomics, to generate translational insights that support clinical development.

  • Support biomarker strategy and execution for MS clinical trials, including evaluation of pharmacodynamic markers, patient stratification approaches, and disease-relevant endpoints.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Clinical Development, Bioanalytical Assay Development, Biostatistics, and Computational Biology to build cohesive biological narratives from clinical trial data.

  • Contribute to the development of clinical study documents, including biomarker sections of Clinical Protocols, Investigator's Brochures, and internal governance materials.

  • Communicate research findings through internal presentations, project team updates, and contributions to peer-reviewed publications and external scientific conferences.Partner with external collaborators, academic institutions, and consortia to advance MS translational research programs.

Who You Are

  • Hold a PhD in Neuroscience, Neuroimmunology, Immunology, Functional Genomics, or a closely related field, with a strong record of scientific achievement with at least 3 years of relevant postdoctoral or industry experience in translational research, MS biology, or neuroimmunology.

  • Possess hands-on experience working with human clinical biospecimens (e.g., CSF, PBMCs, whole blood) and familiarity with the translational research workflows associated with clinical sample analysis.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in multi-omics technologies and familiarity with analysis and interpretation of high-dimensional datasets, such as scRNA-seq, CITE-seq, spatial transcriptomics, bulk RNA-seq, or proteomics.

  • Have working knowledge of biomarker development principles and an ability to connect molecular findings to clinical questions such as dose selection, patient stratification, or target engagement.

  • Are able to independently design, execute, and interpret translational experiments with strong scientific rigor and attention to data quality.

  • Exhibit strong written and oral communication skills, as evidenced by publications and/or scientific presentations.Demonstrate effective organization, ability to manage multiple priorities, and comfort working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment across global teams.

  • Be collaborative, intellectually curious, and motivated by the challenge of translating complex biology into clinical insight for patients with MS.
