About the opportunity QIAGEN Digital Insights is hiring a Scientific Product Owner: a genomics scientist who owns the backlog for our clinical interpretation software and turns scientific and customer needs into requirements engineering can build. You will be the scientific voice inside the development team, with enough technical fluency to write precise user stories, review acceptance criteria, and test what ships.
You will work daily with Product Managers, Software and QA Engineers, UX Designers, Content Scientists, and customer-facing teams across the US and Europe. Your focus is the QIAGEN Clinical Insight (QCI) product lines for hereditary disease and somatic cancer NGS interpretation.
Our mission is "Making Improvements in Life Possible." QIAGEN Digital Insights research products have been cited in over 36,000 scientific publications, and our clinical products have supported decisions in over 3 million patient cases for genetic disease and cancer precision medicine. If you want your science to reach patients through software, this is the place for you.
Your tasks include - Own the product backlog for assigned releases: write and refine user stories and acceptance criteria so work is ready for development.
- Translate scientific needs from product managers, content scientists, key opinion leaders, and customers into clear software requirements.
- Be the scientific voice for engineering: lead refinement sessions and resolve domain questions quickly so the team stays unblocked.
- Shape scientific design for hereditary and somatic workflows with product management and content science teams.
- Work with engineers on how scientific content, variant annotation, and classification logic flow through the platform.
- Test new features from a scientific user's perspective and confirm requirements are fully covered.
- Prioritize customer-reported issues and enhancement requests by clinical impact.
- Assess reported issues for severity, patient safety, and usability risk in our IVD clinical decision-support product.
- Maintain design control documentation and support release readiness, including release notes, user guides, and training for field application scientists and support teams, within an ISO 13485 quality system.
- Act as scientific subject-matter expert and contribute to roadmap planning.
You profile - MS or PhD in genetics, molecular biology, genomics, or a related life science, with expertise in cancer and/or hereditary disease.
- Preferred: 2+ years interpreting clinical next-generation sequencing (NGS) data in a clinical lab, research, or testing environment.
- Working knowledge of variant classification guidelines (e.g. ACMG/AMP) and common genomic data formats and databases.
- 1+ year in a product owner, business analyst, or requirements role on a software or bioinformatics product, or equivalent hands-on experience writing specifications for developers.
- Familiarity with agile development (Scrum or Kanban) and tools such as Jira, Confluence, and requirements-management systems.
- Preferred: comfort discussing APIs, data models, and system behaviour with engineers (no software engineering background required).
- Excellent written and spoken English, including scientific and technical writing.
- Collaborative team player who can coordinate work across functions and across US and European time zones.
- Attentive to detail, curious, and comfortable with complex scientific, technical, and regulatory topics.
