The workThe SAP Release Manager will play a critical role in supporting a large-scale SAP S/4HANA implementation, partnering closely with the Release Management Lead to coordinate and manage the delivery of releases across the entire project lifecycle. This role serves as a central connection point among cross-functional delivery teams, technical teams, and client stakeholders to ensure that release activities are executed efficiently, on schedule, and in alignment with DoD standards and Navy operational requirements.
You will oversee release planning, transport coordination, tooling governance, and readiness activities while maintaining clear communication with project leaders and external stakeholders. The position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a deep understanding of SAP change and transport processes. Through proactive planning and effective collaboration, you will help drive predictable, secure, and high-quality release outcomes.
Key responsibilities:- Support the full lifecycle of SAP releases, including planning, build, testing, readiness reviews, and deployment
- Assist in managing the release calendar and tracking milestones to align with Navy operational timelines
- Oversee transport migration across SAP environments (Dev, QA, Pre-Prod, Prod), ensuring adherence to sequence, dependency rules, and quality controls
- Utilize SAP Solution Manager Change Request Management (ChaRM) to manage transports, approvals, traceability, and audit compliance
- Ensure all release processes follow federal and DoD standards for security, documentation, and quality assurance
- Work daily with functional consultants, ABAP developers, BASIS administrators, security teams, and testers to resolve transport conflicts and deployment blockers
- Serve as a primary contact for client leadership regarding release status, readiness, and risks
- Facilitate release readiness reviews and participate in go/no-go decision meetings
- Identify risks related to code collisions, testing gaps, or deployment conflicts and recommend actionable mitigation strategies
Here's what you need:- 5+ years of SAP Release Management, SAP BASIS, or Change Management experience
- Strong hands-on experience using SAP Solution Manager ChaRM for transport and change management
- Exceptional communication skills, able to translate technical release details into clear updates for executive stakeholders
Nice to have:- Experience with at least one full lifecycle SAP S/4HANA implementation
- Experience with Agile or SAFe frameworks within SAP programs
- Prior experience supporting federal or DoD ERP implementations
