Safety Manager

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Location: 100 Forester Street, North Vancouver, British Columbia

Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: 100k-120k

Travel: 20 %

ERCO Worldwide is looking for a Safety Manager to join the North Vancouver team! As Safety Manager, the primary functions are ensuring site OH&S, and security practices meet or exceed corporate and regulatory procedures and policies. They are responsible for coordinating and conducting site regulatory training and maintaining regulatory records for safety and security. This position also oversees Responsible Care Safety and Security activities at the Plant; recognizing that many of the related tasks will be the responsibility of other site employees to complete. In cooperation with site engineers, they will monitor site process safety, ensuring that process safety studies are performed by the site as per corporate schedule and resulting actions are completed in a timely manner. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager, serving as a member of the site leadership team, the site Occupational Health & Safety Team (OHST), and the ERCO Safety Committee (ESC).

The Role:
  • Ensure site compliance to all government regulated requirements
  • Implementation of company-wide policies and procedures that apply to the site
  • Development, maintenance, and implementation of site plans, policies, procedures, and support of continuous improvement of these internal standards
  • Development, maintenance, and implementation of site training programs, and ensure that the site employees, contractors and visitors are trained in these standards as required, including emergency response activities.
  • Lead all regulatory reporting and documentation requirements both external to government bodies and internal as required
  • Keeping site leadership team and Toronto head office up-to-date on site issues
  • Ensure compliance to CIAC (Chemistry Industry Association of Canada) requirements
  • Promote a positive safety culture with good practices throughout the site and company, and by reporting hazards using our reporting application.
  • Responsible for the completion of many associated tasks, recognizing that many of the related tasks will be the responsibility of other site employees to complete.
  • Member of site Joint Health and Safety Committee, active member of the ERCO Safety Committee (ESC), and act as a liaison to the Plant Manager who has the decision-making authority.
  • Lead and support incident investigations prepared by site responsible departments by analyzing incidents to identify areas of concern; prepare incident reports for some incidents when deemed appropriate.
  • Responsible for trending and analysis of site performance, for various KPI's required throughout the year.
  • Liaise with government, community and emergency responders as required.
  • Ensure that the company wide annual safety plan is integrated with the site safety plan.
  • Following-up on assigned actions in a timely manner.

The Person:
  • University degree - academic technical (preferred) or equivalent OH&S technical training/experience is required
  • Recognized CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) safety designation or education, or currently enrolled in a recognized safety program leading to this safety designation
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working in an industrial/manufacturing environment; preference will be given to candidates with such experience in the sodium chlorate industry
  • Excellent understanding and hands on experience with industrial/manufacturing safety practices; i.e.: equipment lock out, confined space, safety inspections, and hazard assessments.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written to be able to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization and to ensure external and internal reports and letters accurately and legally represent your responsibilities.
  • Proficient computer skills.
