Overview

The Safety Inspector is responsible for ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and contract-specific safety standards across all operations at FASTC compound. This role supports a high-security, mission-critical environment and requires deep expertise in industrial safety practices, hazard mitigation, and regulatory reporting. The Safety Inspector plays a key role in developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs that protect personnel, facilities, and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee safety compliance for all work activities, ensuring adherence to OSHA regulations, EM-385-1-1 requirements, and site-specific safety protocols.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit required OSHA reports, logs, and documentation.
  • Conduct routine and unannounced inspections of work areas, equipment, and procedures to identify hazards and verify compliance.
  • Develop and deliver safety briefings, training sessions, and toolbox talks for personnel and subcontractors.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive method statement outlining how the Safety Department is structured, staffed, and managed.
  • Investigate accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, managers, and technical teams to implement risk-reduction strategies and safe-work practices.
  • Review contractor safety plans, job hazard analyses, and permits to ensure alignment with regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor use of PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, confined-space entry, and other critical safety controls.
  • Support emergency response planning, drills, and incident management activities.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, inspection logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall mission safety.Support emergency response, continuity of operations, and after-hours requirements as needed.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSURE:
  • Secret security clearance required or be able to obtain and maintain.
  • Degree in Environmental Health & Safety or equivalent field; OR current certifications meeting industry standards.
  • Must possess the following certifications:
  • OSHA 10 & OSHA 30
  • HAZWOPER 40
  • EM-385-1-1
  • Minimum 15 years of experience working in safety roles within major industrial facilities or large-scale construction environments.
  • At least 5 years of experience specifically serving as a Safety Inspector or equivalent role.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA reporting requirements, hazard identification, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and manage safety programs and departmental processes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to train personnel and enforce safety standards.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills for incident analysis and corrective-action planning.
  • Ability to work in a high-security, fast-paced operational environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prior experience in the supervision of a workforce responsible for operations, maintenance, and repair of commercial building infrastructure systems.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able be able to conduct preventative maintenance activities and minor repairs from ladders or elevated platforms.
  • Work requires the incumbent to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in uncomfortable positions.
  • Ability to lift, carry and set up tools, equipment and parts that weigh up to and occasionally over fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be comfortable getting dirty, dusty, and greasy in an indoor or outdoor environment with frequent exposure to excessive noise.
  • Must be able to perform duties under adverse weather conditions (extreme cold / heat, etc.).
  • Must be able to work alternate shift schedules when necessary to meet the mission requirements of the customer, to include weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to perform on-call duties when scheduled and report to work within one hour of notification.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE:

Secret or higher security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS:

As a condition of employment, must pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results.
