Job DescriptionThe
DAS RF Engineer plays a critical role in expanding and maintaining high-quality wireless coverage across enterprise, commercial, and outdoor environments. In this role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of Distributed Antenna Systems-from initial site surveys and RF propagation modeling to full system deployment, optimization, and ongoing maintenance. Day-to-day work involves performing RF testing using advanced diagnostic tools, fine-tuning network parameters, and troubleshooting signal interference to guarantee optimal system performance.
As a key technical contributor, your work directly impacts client satisfaction and network reliability by ensuring seamless connectivity in high-density or hard-to-reach spaces. You will work closely with cross-functional project teams, internal engineering peers, equipment manufacturers, and external contractors, reporting directly to the Regional Engineering Lead or Project Manager.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with a passion for RF principles and cutting-edge wireless architecture. You thrive in dynamic environments, combining hands-on technical execution with collaborative project management to deliver top-tier cellular and wireless coverage solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities- Design and develop custom DAS solutions tailored to client specifications to optimize RF spectrum efficiency.
- Conduct comprehensive site surveys to evaluate environmental characteristics and determine optimal equipment configurations.
- Generate RF propagation models and coverage maps to establish baseline signal distribution strategies.
- Execute field testing, including drive, in-building, and walk tests, to validate coverage quality and performance.
- Fine-tune RF parameters and optimize antenna placement to eliminate system interference and signal gaps.
- Utilize RF test equipment, such as spectrum analyzers and power meters, to perform precise system diagnostics.
- Oversee the hands-on installation, integration, and commissioning of DAS network components and controllers.
- Coordinate directly with third-party contractors and project teams to keep deployments on schedule.
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance, periodic health checks, and emergency troubleshooting for active networks.
- Produce comprehensive as-built drawings, operational manuals, and technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Liaise with equipment vendors and manufacturers to verify hardware compatibility and technical compliance.
- Ensure all field installations strictly adhere to safety standards, local regulations, and industry guidelines.
Required Experience/Skills- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in RF engineering with an emphasis on DAS design, installation, and optimization.
- Proficiency with industry-standard RF measurement tools, spectrum analyzers, and network optimization software.
- Deep technical understanding of RF principles, signal propagation, and core DAS components (e.g., cabling, antennas, repeaters).
- Proven ability to interpret RF propagation models, technical schematics, and as-built drawings.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities applicable to complex network architectures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with clients and vendor partners.
- Demonstrated ability to manage field work both independently and within collaborative project teams.
- Ability to meet physical job demands, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working on rooftops, construction sites, or confined spaces.
- Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time, including regional travel (OH/KY) and national travel as needed.
Nice-to-Haves- Hands-on proficiency with DAS design software such as iBwave or Atoll.
- Active iBwave Certification.
- Professional certifications such as RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) or CWNA (Certified Wireless Network Administrator).
- OEM/Manufacturer certifications for leading DAS hardware solutions.
Education- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
Pay & Benefits Summary- Compensation: Competitive annual salary based on experience.
- Travel Allowance: Travel expense reimbursement and per diem provided for out-of-market assignments.
- Healthcare & Wellness: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance options.
