Position: Resident Engineer

Reports to: Project Manager

Technical Responsibilities:

- Responsible for managing the daily operations of the construction inspection team.

- Chairing and managing progress meetings.

- Reviewing RFI's and coordinating responses.

- Checking performed work as approved from site specific work plans.

- Preparing daily Resident Engineer and monthly progress reports.

- Reviewing construction schedules.

- Coordinating the inspection activities and quality control inspection.

- Confirming that the work adheres to the specific contract requirements.

- Resident Engineering Inspection and project management, construction supervision, project evaluations, scheduling, and technical inspection.

- Maintaining and following KSE's health and safety procedures as well as firm various policies and procedures.

- Processing of change orders, payment approval, punch lists, and projects close-out procedures.

- Interacting and liaising with community boards, the public, and city, state, and federal agencies.

- Responsive to Client and other KSE Managers/needs.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications/Professional Licenses:

- Bachelor of Science/Engineering from ABET accredited school.

- Possess Professional Engineer License in NYS and OSHA 10 Safety Awareness Training certificate. Preference to those possessing ACI Concrete Field Testing Grade 1 certification.

Experience:

- Minimum of 5 years of construction experience, with at least 2 years as a Resident Engineer on NYSDOT or NYCDOT major bridge projects.

- Experience managing projects in densely populated areas, particularly in the NYC metropolitan region and over waterways, while coordinating with various agencies.

- Responsible for daily inspection and documentation of construction activities, focusing on safety, quality, and site cleanliness.

- Review and interpret construction contract plans, specifications, and technical documents to ensure compliance.

- Supervise staff in documenting construction activities in line with NYSDOT MURK standards and write daily reports promptly.

- Prepare and review meeting agendas and minutes for both regular progress and special topic meetings.

Professional Development:

- Actively participates in professional societies, industry organizations, and local civic organizations.

- Encourages professional development and training and licensing (self and staff).

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work in diverse weather conditions
• Extended periods of standing and walking possibly on uneven or challenging terrains
• Climbing, bending, kneeling
• Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor construction activities and ensure they adhere to safety protocols and engineering requirements
• Lift up to and carry up to 25 lbs.

General Qualities:

- Strong written and oral communication skills to lead the construction inspection staff.

- Proactive self-starter capable of setting a positive example for the staff.

- Provides technical and management support to the Department Manager/Regional Manager/Project Manager.

- Has full technical and administrative responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating projects/assignments.

- Manages a major complex project and/or several routine less-complex projects.
