Full Job Description
AGS, Inc. is an engineering firm in San Francisco, and is seeking TWO (2) full-time Resident Engineers based out San Francisco. This position will work on contracts with the City and County of San Francisco.

The Resident Engineer provides full-time support to the Construction Manager in the administration of the contract. Supports the contract change process, including monitoring and tracking of field issues, changes, and disputes. Candidate will coordinate with various Project Managers, Project Engineers, and contractors to resolve constructability, funding, and administrative matters. Candidate must have experience in preparing and processing progress payments, change orders, Record of Negotiations, as-builts, and other construction documents. Candidate will facilitate and document project and coordination meetings to resolve project issues with contractors and stakeholders. As needed, the Resident Engineer will serve as the Construction Inspector on the project to provide QA oversight, resolving issues and documentation. Perform all other related duties, as required.

Working Hours/Conditions:

Consultants must have the ability to work a minimum of 8-hour work shifts, Monday - Friday, and commit to a minimum 6-month term. Work may require early morning and/or late-night shifts, and weekends; some dirty and disagreeable work environment and physical effort, such as working in inclement weather conditions, walking on uneven surfaces, and standing for long periods of time.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, planning, or landscape architecture
  • Possession of a Current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in Civil Engineering
  • Possession of a current HAZWOPER Certificate
  • Three (3) years verifiable professional engineering experience; Infrastructure experience in the public right of way a plus.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform Office Engineering, Quality Assurance (QA) monitoring and inspecting of project work for compliance.
  • Verifying and/or conducting necessary testing for contract purposes.
  • Review plans, specifications, and shop drawings for compliance during project and field services.
  • Report observed safety and environmental hazards, and/or field conditions that could alter original designs.
  • Review project schedules and implement inspection plans.
  • Coordinate project phases, leading and/or participating in field meetings.
  • Resolve problems and respond to complaints.
  • Prepare project documentation including progress reports, daily project reports and records, and meeting minutes.
  • Analyze and implement approved change order requests.
  • Maintain records.
  • Verify field measurements.
  • Verify and prepare quantity and progress estimates.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of:
  1. the principles, practices and methods of project management and general project inspection practices.
  2. project, maintenance and repair methods and procedures.
  3. research techniques and reporting.
  4. knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Projects).
  5. materials necessary to determine the quality and correct use in projects.
  6. Safe working habits and regulations in relation to different phases of projects and Excavation Code enforcement.
  • Ability to:
    1. understand and interpret plans and specifications to administer the contract.
    2. perform mathematical computations and apply results to inspection work.
    3. prepare various types of reports and other written communications necessary for record keeping and letters to contractors.
    4. communicate and work effectively and harmoniously with superiors, coworkers, engineers, contractors, and the public.
    5. direct, monitor and evaluate the work of subordinates.
    6. ensure adherence to established policies and procedures.
    7. encourage and foster team building.
    8. resolve problems and conflicts; and expedite project goals.

Hourly Salary Min: $65.00 Max: $75.00
