  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.
  • Direct high-priority lab research projects and assist in preparing scientific documentation.

What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Research Scientist. This role will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services. This is a full-time opportunity located in Bethesda, MD.

  • Perform a wide array of immunology and molecular biological techniques with animal and human cells/tissues.

  • Perform a variety of biochemical assays, immuno-precipitations, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and western blotting.

  • Perform a range of next generation sequencing techniques, including for transcriptomics and epigenetic analyses.

  • Perform immunofluorescence staining and functional analyses of tissue samples.

  • Work with the sequencing, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, and other cores as needed.

  • Maintain mouse lines (breeding, genotyping).

  • Present research at international and national research meetings.

  • Conduct and help direct independent research projects of high priority for the laboratory.

  • Assist the Lab Chief in the creating/preparing documents required by the Lab Chief’s scientific activities (e.g., CRADAs, Material Transfer Agreements, Patent Applications, Animal Protocols, BSC review)

  • Review, edit, and write drafts of papers, posters and manuscripts produced within the laboratory for consistency of the research agenda, adherence to any applicable scientific policies, and clarity of presentation of data and other scientific information.

  • Act as a scientific consultant, technical expert, and collaborator for IRTA fellows, Visiting Fellows, and others in the lab as needed.

What You Will Need:

  • Ph.D. or M.D. or other appropriate doctoral degree in science, medicine, or related field

  • Minimum of SIX (6) years of research experience in science, medicine, or related fields.

  • Extensive experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and immunology research, including experience in immune cell development and function.

  • Experience generating knockout mice, conditional knockout mice, and extensive experience working with mice/mouse models.

  • Extensive experience related to next generation sequencing methods and analyses (e.g., RNA-seq, scRNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C, HiChIP, PCA, UMAP, tSNE).

  • Experience with advanced molecular biology techniques (e.g., ChIP, co-IP, advanced cloning techniques, western blotting, Northern blotting, Southern blotting, Q-PCR).

  • Experience with flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and metabolomics.

  • Extensive experience in cell culture and/or extensive knowledge of cell biology.

  • Ability to manage and coordinate high-priority short- and long-term projects and studies in a fast-paced environment.


What Would Be Nice To Have:

  • Previous experience with NIH preferred.   

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and PowerPoint

The annual salary range for this position is $98,000.00-$163,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
