Full Job Description
Research Scientist 1 - Grape Breeding positions offered by E & J Gallo Winery (Madera, California). Conduct research focused on the breeding and genetic improvement of wine grape varieties. Plan and conduct experiments on topics such as yield, production efficiency, genetic trait mapping, molecular marker development, and grape quality and composition improvement. Contribute to the development and deployment of technical innovations and germplasm related to wine grape genetics and breeding. Execute viticulture and grape breeding research strategies, programs and projects based on corporate guidance and business needs. Minimum Requirements: • Requires a bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in Plant Science, Plant Breeding, Plant Genetics, or a related field and 6 years of experience independently designing and conducting research. • Must have 6 years of experience in each of the following: • Overseeing data collection, including analysis and interpretation of results; • Writing and presenting technical reports for upper management, scientists, and non-scientists; • In lieu of a bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in the aforementioned fields and 6 years of experience as stated, employer will accept a master's or foreign equivalent degree in the aforementioned fields and 4 years of experience as stated, or a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent degree in the aforementioned fields and 1 year of experience as stated. Must have demonstrated proficiency in the following: • Developing, planning, managing and executing research projects to contribute to the genetic improvement of grapevine yield, grapevine production efficiency, and grape and wine quality and composition; and • Applying technologies and innovations to improve grapevine plant material. • Experience may be, but need not be, acquired concurrently. We are offering a salary of $130,512 to $154,700 per year.
