Job Summary and ResponsibilitiesAs our Research Engineer III in our Neuromodulation Research Department you will have broad discretion and independence granted by the laboratory chief or division head and collaborating faculty members, the Research Engineer III (RE3) engages in the designing, developing, implementation of biomedical engineering and other research experiments.
Every day your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, method development, design of automatic data collection programs, design and drafting of fixtures and test apparatuses (using rapid prototyping, manual machining or other methods). The RE3 also provides technical biomedical engineering support in the design, repair, modification of specialized equipment and their applications, guidance to more junior research engineers and laboratory trainees, and expert partnership in interactions with the laboratory or division head.
To be successful in this role, you will maintains supply inventory, organization and other records, and remain within known fiscal limits when budgeting and forecasting for supplies, preventing delays due to inadequate supplies. Maintains quality control of all equipment utilized in his/her research area by initiating routine service checks, preventive maintenance, and calibrating in accordance with equipment manuals, ensuring all equipment is performing to standard and training new personnel on equipment use.
- Creates, maintains, and updates lab's internal procedure manuals, is constructive and positive when communicating observations, suggestions, problems and questions and is a good listener, and maintains professionalism, openness and honesty in oral and written communications with team members.
- Maintains relationships with vendors to ensure up-to-date knowledge of outsourcing options; finds outsourcing options for engineered equipment to minimize cost and man-hours
- Expert knowledge of vendors and manufacturers such as the acquisitions of appropriate parts and equipment and the maintenance of the laboratory's needs.
- Keeps accurate records of research results and efforts and presents findings in regular lab meetings
- Executes experiments using designs largely created with independence granted by the laboratory or division head, contributes new ideas for increasing scope and impact of ongoing projects and assists in writing and proofreading test reports, manuscripts and grant applications
- Participates in continuing education such as searching and reading literature, attending presentations, and attending national conferences, and performs tasks outside of area of focus as needed by other team members

Required
Masters Degree in related field
Five (5) years experience in electrical, biomedical, or mechanical engineering or related field
PreferredDoctorate Of Science in related field
Ten (10) years experience in electrical, biomedical, or mechanical engineering; advanced mathematics or physics; statistics; computer simulation systems; control systems; or related field
