POSITION SUMMARY

Position Title: Research Associate, Discovery Biology

Reports to: Senior Scientist, Discovery Biology

Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt

Location: On-Site, South San Francisco, CA

Summary: We are seeking a creative and highly motivated Research Associate to join our Discovery Biology team at our South San Francisco location. You will work closely with members of the drug discovery team to conduct and oversee biological testing of new inhibitors.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Executing in vitro experiments to identify and characterize compounds with biological activity, specially viral infection inhibitors.
  • Developing, optimizing, and validating biochemical and cell-based assays to support ongoing discovery projects
  • In collaboration with senior research member, making detailed observations, analyzing data, and interpreting results
  • Effectively supporting multiple projects and learning new techniques to support novel exploratory discovery work, as needed
  • Presenting experimental findings, assay results, and scientific rationale clearly to internal project teams to support data-driven decision-making
  • Utilizing data analysis software and MS Office applications
  • Managing compound inventories and assay data
  • Participating in general lab maintenance including reagent preparation, ordering of general lab supplies, and maintenance of equipment

Qualifications Include:
  • Sc./M.S. or equivalent degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Virology, or relevant scientific discipline
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in industrial or academic settings, preference given to experience in a drug discovery setting
  • Strong expertise in assay development, cell biology, virology, and molecular biology techniques, e.g. sterile technique, maintenance of mammalian cells, cytotoxicity, virus production and titration, transporter & reporter assays, antiviral activity assays & mechanism of action studies; ELISA, (RT)qPCR; molecular cloning; transfection; Western blot; etc.
  • Must be comfortable working in a BSL2 setting with potentially infectious agents
  • Demonstrated expertise in ensuring good laboratory practices and BSL2 standards
  • Ability to clearly summarize and present experimental findings, data interpretation, troubleshooting outcomes, and scientific insights to support assay optimization and compound characterization
  • Motivated, and proactive cell biologist and/or molecular virologist with desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, molecular cloning programs, GraphPad Prism and scientific informatics tools for data input, analysis, and management


Pay Range: $87,000 - $91,260 annualized

The stated pay range for this position reflects the San Francisco Bay Area job market. Assembly Bio establishes pay ranges based on geographic work locations. Additional factors such as academic credentials and relevant experience will influence the actual salary offered.
