Full Job Description
Overview
Reporting to Director, Drug Diversion Prevention Program, the Senior Drug Diversion Specialist serves as primary liaison to Dartmouth-Hitchcock, the largest and most clinically and operationally complex Dartmouth Health system member. The Senior Drug Diversion Specialist role also supports Dartmouth Health member sites in managing complex diversion investigations and post-investigation cause analysis. In their role, the Senior Drug Diversion Specialist applies, and mentors leaders and peers in, change management techniques, Just Culture principles, systems thinking methods, and data-driven problem solving in the context of diversion prevention, detection, and response.

Responsibilities
  • Builds investigation plans for complex diversion investigations carried out across the Dartmouth Health system.
  • Provides oversight and guidance for complex diversion investigations undertaken across the Dartmouth Health system.
  • Leads investigations into suspected drug diversion at Dartmouth-Hitchcock in collaboration with local leaders, drug diversion specialists, and Drug Diversion Rapid Response Team.
  • Leads cause analysis following confirmed or suspected diversion events to gain insight into potential opportunities for system improvement and diversion risk mitigation at Dartmouth Health locations.
  • Provides diversion prevention coaching and consulting to Senior Leaders (Executives), Service Line Leaders/Divisions, and Drug Diversion Specialists.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with system member diversion prevention colleagues through collaboration and communication.
  • Builds and engages in comprehensive surveillance and auditing activities to detect drug diversion, in collaboration with Pharmacy, Nursing and Anesthesia
  • Maintains the structure and processes of a comprehensive Drug Diversion Prevention Program at Dartmouth-Hitchcock.
  • Co-chairs Dartmouth-Hitchcock Controlled Substance Diversion Prevention Program Steering Committee with member location(s) Pharmacy department leader
  • Maintains Dartmouth-Hitchcock drug diversion prevention, detection, and response policies/procedures
  • Provides leadership in multidisciplinary drug diversion prevention education activities
  • Collaborates with all departments/disciplines on controlled substance and drug diversion-related issues, serving as a diversion prevention resource and providing best practice recommendations for controlled substance management
  • Ensures appropriate collection and analysis to drug diversion-related data, and maintains a database containing all data collected that may relate to drug diversion
  • Ensures that internal and external regulatory reporting occurs, as required, following a confirmed diversion event, in collaboration with Office of General Counsel
  • Presents institutional drug diversion reports to Senior Leaders and Board of Trustees as requested
  • Serves as a diversion prevention resource across all Dartmouth Health member locations
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned

    • Master's Degree in Nursing, Analytics, or Healthcare-related field, required.
    • Experience with nursing, pharmacy, hospital, and clinical operations, required.
    • Experience managing drug diversion prevention programs, required.
    • Experience with complex drug diversion investigations, required.
    • Working knowledge of relevant DEA, Board of Pharmacy, FDA, Joint Commission, CMS regulations, required.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop positive relationships with key stakeholders, strong conflict management skills.
    • Ability to work with data and draw inferences from multiple sources and types of information.
    • Ability to analyze complex issues, and develop relevant and realistic improvement plans/recommendations.
    • Experience planning and managing complex projects.
    • Demonstrated excellence in facilitation and teaching.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
    • Microsoft Office Suite competence: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
    • Must thrive working in fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient


    Required Licensure/Certifications

    - Registered Nurse with New Hampshire and Vermont eligibility - Lean/Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification - Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality or Certified Professional in Patient Safety, within 12 months of hire
