The OpportunityBlack & Veatch is seeking a Senior Mechanical Pipe Stress Engineer to join our Power Generation team. In this senior-level role, you will serve as a technical specialist and industry expert, driving complex engineering solutions across large-scale power generation projects. You will lead multi-discipline coordination, mentor engineering staff, support client engagement, and uphold the highest standards of quality, safety, and innovation. Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership & Standards Proactively provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and B&V policies; may own, maintain, update, or develop engineering standards and guides.
Serves as technical specialist in a broad area of specialization or narrow specialized field; develops and applies advanced engineering concepts to unique and complex problems.
Recognized as an industry expert; participates in professional societies through paper presentations, serves as section lead for large or complex specialty areas, and acts as engineering consultant on larger-scale projects.
Supports the chief engineers or top engineering management; accountable for discipline-specific engineering processes.
Project Execution & Deliverables Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects, including complex calculations following standard methods and principles.
Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection; oversees collection, assimilation, and management of engineering data.
Develops and applies advanced engineering solutions to complex problems; manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
Establishes work plans for given projects; ensures project teams delegate appropriate tasks to lower-level members to develop project execution depth.
Reviews lower-level engineering work or assignments; leads production teams, coordinates multiple discipline activity, and/or serves as responsible charge for projects.
Quality, Coordination & Client Engagement Applies knowledge and ensures compliance with B&V quality programs; establishes related processes and promotes a culture conducive to quality, continuous improvement, change management, and risk management.
Actively coordinates with all internal and external team members on complex projects; defines project schedules for single or multiple disciplines.
Identifies key client interests and drivers; communicates these to the project team and develops approaches to accommodate client concerns on complex projects.
Works to identify future client needs and how to better position B&V; may offer additional services and provide support to business development and pursuit activities.
People Leadership & Mentorship Actively mentors lower-level and mid-level professionals; identifies and trains successors in the specifics of their roles.
Typically oversees performance management, career planning, recognition, learning and development, and corrective actions.
May participate in compensation management, succession planning, disciplinary actions, employee relations, and workforce planning.

Preferred Qualifications- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with mega or multi-billion-dollar power generation projects (gas turbine, combined cycle, or nuclear).
- Prior involvement in business development, client presentations, or proposal pursuits.
- Experience in developing or updating engineering standards, guides, or best practices.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 11 years of progressive experience in mechanical pipe stress engineering, with significant exposure to power generation projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in pipe stress analysis software (e.g., CAESAR II, AutoPIPE) and applicable engineering codes (ASME B31.1, B31.3, etc.).
- Proven experience leading engineering teams, managing project schedules and budgets, and serving as responsible charge on complex projects.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across disciplines and engage effectively with clients.
CertificationsHolds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and supports where necessary.
