Full Job Description
The role supports design governance from feasibility through to project completion.

The role protects design quality and consistency across the region, ensuring every project meets OSG standards, educational requirements and approved scope before projects progress.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Design development
  • Produce concept and detailed design for capital works, from masterplan and feasibility through to construction-ready documentation.
  • Develop layouts, room sizes, circulation and services strategy in line with educational requirements and approved scope.
  • Prepare and maintain design information required for approval, tender and construction.
  • Ensure design solutions are practical, coordinated, cost conscious and appropriate to the intended operational use of the facility.

Design standards and governance
  • Apply OSG design standards, guidelines and non-negotiables consistently across all regional projects.
  • Support the design review and approval process, confirming compliance before projects progress past each stage.
  • Advise the Regional Director of Infrastructure Delivery on design risk and options at feasibility and concept.
  • Identify design issues that may affect project cost, program, functionality, compliance or constructability and escalate these appropriately.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to the ongoing improvement of design standards.


Design coordination
  • Coordinate design development and reviews with the campus support teams, Education, IT and other departments.
  • Manage and coordinate input from external design consultants where engaged, ensuring quality, coordination and adherence to OSG standards.
  • Resolve design queries and constructability issues with delivery teams.
  • Ensure stakeholder requirements are appropriately captured, evaluated and incorporated within project scope.

Documentation and information management
  • Track design submissions, review comments, approvals and revisions through the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure design information is complete, coordinated and issued in line with the project program.
  • Maintain design records in the correct systems with accurate version control.
  • Ensure final design, as-built and relevant project documentation is appropriately captured at project completion and available for operational handover.

Support to delivery
  • Provide design clarifications and manage design changes during construction.
  • Support the Contracts Administrator by confirming the design basis of variations and instructions.
  • Contribute to value engineering and design efficiencies without compromising OSG standards.
  • Participate in site inspections and design reviews as required to confirm delivered wrks align with approved design intent.


Facilities and lifecycle integration
  • Consider whole of life performance when evaluating design options and proposed materials, systems and finishes.
  • Work with Regional Facilities Managers to ensure design standards are maintained and complied with during ongoing maintenance activities.


Regional design capability
  • Develop a consistent regional approach to design practices and standards across campuses.
  • Support fundraising pitches and property acquisition assessments with early design input where required.
  • Share design lessons learned and practical insights with Regional and Global Infrastructure Delivery teams to support continuous improvement.

Contribute to the development and refinement of design templates, standards and tools as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Strong technical design capability across concept and detailed design for building and capital works projects.
  • Sound knowledge of building design standards, regulatory requirements and the design lifecycle.
  • Ability to interpret educational and operational requirements and translate them into effective design solutions.
  • Proficiency in design and documentation software, and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to apply design standards consistently and coordinate multiple stakeholders.
  • Understanding of constructability, value engineering and cost drivers in design.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills to work with campus teams, consultants and delivery staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and disciplined document control.
  • Ability to manage multiple design activities and competing project deadlines.
  • Sound judgement with the ability to identify design risks and escalate matters appropriately.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Tertiary qualification in architecture, building design, engineering or a related field, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience producing and coordinating concept and detailed design for building or capital works projects.
  • Experience applying design standards and non-negotiables across multiple projects.
  • Experience coordinating design with external consultants and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting projects through feasibility, procurement, construction and completion.
  • Experience in a multi-site or education environment is highly regarded.
