JOB SUMMARY

Specialty Systems, Inc. has an opening for a RED Hat Platform Engineer to join our team of technical professionals supporting Government customers and national security mission requirements. In this role, you will support the design, implementation, automation, and sustainment of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)-based platform environments supporting mission-critical defense systems and software-intensive applications.

The position involves working within Government-provided environments while supporting secure infrastructure operations, platform modernization, DevSecOps integration, and system lifecycle management activities. As a member of the Specialty Systems team, you will contribute directly to secure and reliable platform solutions that support critical defense and intelligence missions.

This position is located at our customer site location. In this position, you will work our customer's Compressed Work Schedule which consists of working four 9-hour days (M-Th) and an 8-hour day (F) for the first week of a cycle followed by four 9-hour days (M-Th) and being off on the second Friday for the second week of a cycle. This results in a 3-day weekend every other week!

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Design, implement, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)-based platform infrastructure across environments.
    • Automate system provisioning, configuration management, documentation, and deployment using Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
    • Administer and maintain Linux systems, including system hardening, patching, and lifecycle management.
    • Implement and maintain security controls in compliance with DoD requirements (STIGs, RMF).
    • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure platform reliability and scalability.
    • Coordinate patching, updates, vulnerability remediation, and lifecycle maintenance of Windows systems.
    • Manage storage, file systems, and system resources for optimal performance.
    • Collaborate with Agile software, systems engineering, cybersecurity, and automated/manual test teams to support platform integration and delivery.
    • Maintain documentation, system baselines, and architecture artifacts to support program requirements.
    • Identify risks, recommend improvements, and support modernization initiatives across platform environments.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field is preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Active Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain an interim Secret clearance within approximately four weeks after submission of the clearance application.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting Windows-based enterprise environments or platform engineering roles.
  • Security+ CE or ability to obtain within 3-6 months.


Technical Requirements:

  • Strong experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems administration and engineering.
  • Experience with scripting (Bash, Python) and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform).
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts and system security.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining compliance standards (STIG, RMF, or similar).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Navy or DoD programs.
  • Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE).
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
  • Experience with OpenShift or enterprise Kubernetes platforms
  • Experience with cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Ansible, Terraform, or similar).
