Job DescriptionThe Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking a highly skilled System Engineer to serve as a senior technical lead and Red Hat OpenShift Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for enterprise Kubernetes platforms, DevSecOps, and cloud-native modernization. The SE-4 Cloud DevOps Engineer serves as the technical authority for the FAA's enterprise container platform, leading the design, implementation, automation, security, and operational excellence of cloud-native infrastructure based on Red Hat OpenShift. This position is responsible for architecting scalable, highly available, secure Kubernetes environments that support mission-critical FAA applications across cloud and hybrid infrastructures.
Salary is based on relative years of experience: $170,000 - $180,000
Job Duties & Responsibilities - Essential Job Functions may include (but are not limited to) the following:

- Serve as the FAA technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).
- Design, deploy, configure, and maintain highly available OpenShift clusters across AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, and on-premises environments.
- Develop enterprise standards, governance, and operational procedures for OpenShift deployments.
- Manage cluster upgrades, lifecycle management, scaling, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
- Configure Operators, OperatorHub, MachineSets, MachineConfigPools, Routes, Ingress Controllers, Storage Classes, and networking components.
- Implement multi-cluster management using Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (ACM).
- Support OpenShift Virtualization where applicable.
- Design Kubernetes architectures following industry best practices.
- Manage namespaces, RBAC, quotas, network policies, secrets, service accounts, persistent storage, and workload scheduling.
- Configure:
- Horizontal Pod Autoscaling
- Cluster Autoscaling
- Pod Security Standards
- Resource limits
- Stateful workloads
- Service Mesh (Istio/OpenShift Service Mesh)
- Troubleshoot complex cluster, networking, storage, and application issues.
- Design and implement enterprise CI/CD pipelines supporting secure software delivery.
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Ansible, and GitOps methodologies.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, application deployments, configuration management, and environment consistency.
- Integrate GitOps platforms such as Argo CD or Flux for declarative application deployment
Required Qualifications - A successful candidate will have - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience. (Master's degree preferred).
- 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, systems engineering, platform engineering, or related technical disciplines.
- 5+ years of experience with AWS or comparable enterprise cloud platforms.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform
Education- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
