The PositionThe Real Estate Assistant Professor delivers lower-division academic and career education coursework in real estate principles, practice, finance, legal aspects, appraisal, economics, and property management. The instructor prepares students for California Department of Real Estate (DRE) Broker and Salesperson licensing examinations, and workforce entry or advancement. The full-time position includes at least 15 hours a week teaching both on-campus and online courses. This position will provide dedicated faculty leadership for the DRE-certified program that serves as the primary Real Estate education provider in the District and a leading provider in the region.

- Deliver instruction across multiple modalities, including face-to-face, fully online (Canvas LMS), and hybrid/blended formats.
- Integrate educational technology, digital learning resources, virtual simulations, and industry-relevant platforms to support accessible, engaging, and applied learning across instructional modalities.
- Maintain and update course syllabi, outlines, and instructional materials in alignment with college curriculum standards and California state real estate law.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) & Assessment: - Develop, assess, and evaluate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs).
- Maintain accurate student attendance, census rosters, grade records, and course progress reports in compliance with district deadlines.
Equity & Student Centeredness: - Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Institutional & Professional Engagement: - Program Leadership, Review & Continuous Improvement:
- Provide faculty leadership for the Real Estate program, including short- and long-range planning, annual and comprehensive Program Review, resource requests, and implementation of program improvement priorities.
- Review enrollment, retention, course success, completion, degree and certificate attainment, transfer, licensure-exam participation, and licensure-exam outcomes to identify barriers and guide evidence-based improvements.
- Coordinate the program's two-year curriculum review and update cycle; develop, revise, and expand courses, certificates, and degrees to reflect regulatory changes, emerging occupations, regional workforce needs, and transfer pathways.
- Develop new certificates of achievement and certificates of performance, as appropriate, to create clear pathways into more than 25 real estate-related careers, including property management, escrow, appraisal, lending, compliance, and development.
- Lead timely implementation of approved curriculum and regulatory changes, communicate transition plans to students and faculty, and minimize disruption to students' educational and licensure progress.
- Hold regular office hours and provide academic and career mentorship to students.
- Participate in campus governance, department meetings, advisory committees, curriculum revision, and accreditation efforts.
- Serve as an active and collaborative faculty departmental team member by participating in department planning, shared decision-making, interdisciplinary coordination, student-support initiatives, and collective work that advances departmental and college goals.
- Maintain industry currency through professional development, continuing education, and connections with local real estate associations.
Regulatory Compliance & State Alignment: - Serve as the program's faculty lead and primary academic liaison with the California Department of Real Estate and other applicable regulatory or accrediting bodies.
- Monitor changes to California licensing education requirements and ensure that qualifying courses, course outlines, instructional content, records, and program practices remain current and compliant.
- Coordinate required submissions, approvals, documentation, and follow-up related to state-certified real estate education.
- Engage with the California Community Colleges Real Estate Education Center and statewide faculty networks to strengthen program quality, access professional development, coordinate resources, and adopt effective practices.
Student Licensure, Completion & Career Pathways: - Provide proactive advising and mentorship to help students select appropriate courses, complete degrees and certificates, satisfy state pre-licensure education requirements, apply for examinations, and navigate the Broker or Salesperson licensure process.
- Develop and coordinate licensure-exam preparation, workshops, information sessions, referral resources, and follow-up support designed to improve examination participation and pass rates.
- Use licensure participation and outcome data to strengthen the transition from course completion to state examination, licensing, and employment.
- Help students explore the breadth of careers available across residential and commercial real estate, appraisal, property management, escrow, lending, finance, development, public-sector real estate, business sales, and related fields.
- Help students maintain professional recency by understanding current laws, regulations, market practices, technology platforms, and continuing-education expectations across real estate career pathways.
- Prepare students to use artificial intelligence tools responsibly and effectively in the real estate profession, including applications for market research, property analysis, client communications, marketing, transaction support, and decision-making, with attention to ethics, accuracy, privacy, fair housing, and regulatory compliance.
- Connect students with internships, work-based learning, job-shadowing, mentorship, scholarships, professional associations, employers, and career opportunities.
Faculty Coordination & Program Operations: - Provide discipline-specific guidance, orientation, mentoring, and instructional resources to adjunct Real Estate faculty.
- Participate in recruitment, hiring, onboarding, evaluation, and professional development of adjunct faculty in accordance with district policies and collective bargaining requirements.
- Coordinate course scheduling in conjunction with the department chair and dean, modality, and rotation recommendations to support student access, timely completion, and efficient use of faculty expertise.
- Respond to student, faculty, counselor, employer, and community inquiries regarding curriculum, program requirements, licensure, and career pathways.
Industry Advisory Council & Community Engagement: - Lead and sustain an active Real Estate Industry Advisory Council, document recommendations, and incorporate appropriate feedback into curriculum, equipment, student support, and workforce-development planning.
- Build partnerships with employers, professional associations, public agencies, community organizations, alumni, and other educational institutions to strengthen instruction and expand opportunities for students.
- Develop relationships with organizations such as the San Diego Association of Realtors and other regional industry partners to expand mentorship, work-based learning, recruitment, and employment opportunities.
- Represent and promote the program at outreach, recruitment, professional-development, and community events, including efforts to serve students affected by reduced regional program availability.
