Salary Range: $125,627.83

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

The Radiation Protection Supervisor is a field-focused, hands-on role responsible for executing and leading day-to-day radiation protection activities at Kinectrics licensed facilities. This position is intended for a senior experienced radiation protection expert who applies judgment, experience, and technical depth to support safe, compliant, and efficient operations, while working collaboratively with supervisors, managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams. Report primarily to Kinectrics Bruce County sites (Tiverton, ON), with routine travel to licensed facilities in Teeswater, and occasional travel to Etobicoke as operationally required.

Support additional client or Kinectrics sites on an as-needed basis.

• Perform and lead hands on radiation protection field activities, including contamination surveys, dose rate measurements, air sampling, smear analysis, and real ltime radiological monitoring using approved instrumentation.
• Provide expert guidance on RP and health physics related issues to internal teams and clients, including radiological characterization, shielding, and ALARA planning.
• Support development and enforce implementation of the Kinectrics RP Program to ensure alignment with CNSC and international regulatory standards.
• Oversee and conduct radiological measurements, data analysis, and interpretation to support decision-making.
• Provide day to day technical direction to RP Technicians during field execution, ensuring tasks are completed safely and in full compliance with approved work instructions.
• Support radiological waste characterization, volume reduction, management, and disposal strategies for Kinectrics licensed facilities.
• Report to Kinectrics Bruce County sites (Tiverton, ON) as primary work location, with some travel required to support client needs as well as to support Kinectrics RP Operations at additional licensed facilities located in Teeswater and Etobicoke as required, typically at a monthly frequency or as otherwise determined to be necessary. Additional travel may be required to alternate client sites on an as needed basis.
• Perform and lead radiation protection activities in accordance with approved procedures, work instructions, and regulatory requirements, including exposure control, contamination control, and decontamination activities.
• Conduct and interpret radiological surveys, measurements, sampling, and monitoring using approved instrumentation and methods.
• Analyze and document radiological data in accordance with established criteria to support operational decisions and reporting.
• Implement, oversee, and enforce radiation protection measures to support decommissioning, waste handling, radioactive material management, and routine operations at licensed facilities.
• Support planning and execution of radiological work packages, including job coverage, hazard identification, and implementation of ALARA controls as defined in approved plans.
• Record, document, and verify survey results according to RP Program standards and CNSC regulatory expectations.
• Participate directly in field audits and compliance reviews, providing corrective actions or recommendations based on observed radiological conditions.

• Contribute to pre-job planning activities, including review of radiological hazards, work methods, and protective controls.

• Foster a safety-focused and collaborative work culture within the Health Physics and Radiation Protection team(s) and across project interfaces.
• Mentor and coach junior staff, and RP technicians in radiation protection practices, procedures, and field techniques.
• Encourage a learning environment where innovation, professional development, and continuous improvement are promoted.
• Support team engagement through clear communication, feedback, and alignment with shared goals.
• Champion radiation safety and safe work practices through personal performance and peer influence.
• Enforce radiation safety and regulatory compliance in all work performed, including adherence to CNSC requirements and licensed site procedures.

• Support the development and delivery of radiation protection training material related to instrumentation, monitoring techniques, and good field practices.
• Share technical knowledge and experience to support skill development within the radiation protection team.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry standards and evolving best practices in radiation protection.

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of radiation protection procedures, tools, and workflows.
• Stay current with industry best practices, regulatory changes, and technical innovations in the radiation protection and operational health physics field.
• Drive innovation and improvement in the application of radiological assessment methods, modeling tools, and decontamination technologies.

What You Need to Succeed

• Completion of three year community college or undergraduate degree in Radiation Science, Nuclear Technology, Health Physics or a related field, or equivalent combined education and experience plus specialized courses
• Minimum 10 years related experience or equivalent with a minimum of 3-5 years of direct radiation protection field experience in a CNSC-licensed environment is required, with direct involvement in designing, improving and enforcing radiation protection projects, programs, and procedures.
• Demonstrated proficiency in hands-on radiation protection principles, including operational radiation protection, radiological hazard assessments, and ALARA oversight
• Practical experience in radiation measurement techniques (e.g., gamma spectroscopy, contamination surveys, dose estimates).
• Experience supporting and overseeing radiological field work at licensed nuclear facilities, preferably with experience providing oversight and support during High Hazard work, First of a Kind (FOAK) work, or complex/unique radioactive work
• Experience leading or supervising nuclear decommissioning projects and the execution of tasks
• Experience supervising a team of RP technologists and field personnel
• Knowledge and experience supporting decommissioning activities, waste characterization, radioactive material handling, transport, and release criteria.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Ability to lead or contribute to multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Certification by the Canadian Radiation Protection Association (CRPA) an asset, particularly for advanced field assessments or waste classification tasks,
• Strong written and verbal communication skills appropriate for technical documentation and field coordination.
• Ability to work collaboratively within unionized, multidisciplinary environments.
• Familiarity with CANDU reactor systems and radiological hazards
• Understanding of operational radiological waste characterization principles and methods, classification, logistics, and volume minimization strategies.
• Familiarity with Class-7 Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) requirements and familiarity with Packaging and Transport of Nuclear Substances Regulations (PTNSR).
• Ability to support or develop as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Class-7 shipments for company-wide shipments of radioactive material.
• Knowledge of radiation protection instrumentation QA/QC and calibration practices.
• Experience supporting training or mentoring of radiation protection personnel.
• Ability to successfully obtain and maintain a valid nuclear site security clearance.
• CRPA certification considered an asset.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
