What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking a Senior Manager who will lead the Integrated Nanotechnologies Group, a highly collaborative group of 50-60 staff and postdocs with expertise in nanoscience that is part of the Material, Physical, and Chemical Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. This group works at the nexus of nanostructured materials, quantum science, advanced microelectronics, and advanced manufacturing alongside collaborators from across the country, combining fundamental science and technological innovation in ways that will benefit our nation. This senior manager will also serve as the Co-Director for the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT). CINT is a Department of Energy (DOE) funded partnership with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), with facilities at both sites. This exciting Senior Manager role thus includes supporting an enthusiastic user community (~500/year), many of whom perform research on site at Sandia's CINT facility. The leadership of CINT is shared with LANL, so the successful applicant must be capable of leading a jointly operated, multi-institutional enterprise.
On any given day, the Senior Manager will be asked to:
- Nurture an intellectual environment conducive to scientific research, development, and innovation that retains and attracts the highest caliber scientific staff and ensures appropriate mentoring and supervision of postdocs and students
- Implement appropriate safety, environment, security, and quality, compliance and administrative policies
- Collaborate as a trusted member of the Materials, Physics, and Chemistry Center management team, championing the strategic, tactical, and operational success of the center in partnership with the other Sr. Managers and the Center Director
- Contribute broadly to supporting Sandia's dual missions as both one of 17 Department of Energy national laboratories and one of three National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories
The Senior Manager must also:
- Provide leadership to ensure the success of CINT's scientific user program
- Maintain a trusted and effective partnership between Sandia and LANL
- Ensure CINT strategy is aligned to the missions and strategies of the DOE Office of Science (SC), Basic Energy Sciences (BES), and the two host Laboratories
- Serve as the primary point of contact for CINT's BES customer and external advisory bodies, the scientific advisory committee and the user executive committee
Due to the nature of the work, the selected candidate must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range$193,000 - $328,200
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
