The successful candidate will be a scientist with the capability to perform research and development to create novel functional coatings and integrate these coatings within current instrumentation.
The role requires someone with strong technical skills in physical and/or chemical vapor deposition and experience with materials characterization techniques, such as electron microscopy, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy. Solid understanding of the physical, chemical and mechanical behavior of materials and thin films is crucial. Exceptional problem-solving skills, the ability to quickly adapt to the demands of rapidly changing, nuanced projects, and having the technical and leadership capability to initiate collaborations with both internal and external colleagues are essential.
Qualifications- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related field
- Experience with physical vapor deposition (PVD) and/or chemical vapor deposition (CVD): Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), Plasma-Enhanced CVD (PECVD), Metal-Organic CVD (MOCVD) or Sputtering
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of thin films and materials
- Demonstrated capability in solving sophisticated materials problems through the targeted use of characterization techniques
- Experience with multiple characterization techniques such as SEM/TEM, XPS, Auger, AFM, FTIR
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proven success in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment
- Familiarity with spectroscopic analytical instrumentation, such as ICP/MS, FTIR, UV/Vis, ICP-OES, is valuable
