Summary of Role:

As a Principal Engineer, this role focuses on process development, integration, yield improvement, characterization, and manufacturing readiness for photonic quantum technologies. The position works across fabrication, device engineering, metrology, and characterization teams to accelerate photonic technology development.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize semiconductor process modules used for photonic integrated circuits and quantum photonic devices.
  • Execute integration activities involving deposition, lithography, etch, metrology, and defect reduction.
  • Characterize optical and material performance using process, metrology, and device characterization data.
  • Identify yield limiters and process variability drivers and implement corrective actions.
  • Support fabrication of optical waveguides, modulators, resonators, detectors, and integrated photonic structures.
  • Collaborate with engineering and research teams to improve process capability and manufacturability.
  • Support process transfer to manufacturing and pilot-line environments.
  • Maintain detailed process documentation and integration records.

  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.

Required Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in semiconductor process integration, photonics process development, or advanced device fabrication.
  • Experience in lithography, thin-film deposition, etch processing, and metrology.
  • Experience with process control, yield analysis, SPC, DOE, or root-cause analysis.
  • Strong hands-on laboratory and cleanroom experience.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with silicon photonics, silicon nitride, AlN, Al₂O₃, lithium niobate, or related photonic materials.
  • Experience with waveguide fabrication, optical coupling, or photonic-device characterization.
  • Familiarity with quantum photonic systems, cryogenic optical measurements, or integrated optics.
  • Experience with Python, JMP, MATLAB, or statistical analysis tools.
  • Experience working in an advanced semiconductor manufacturing environment.

Expected Salary Range

$85,000.00 - $146,000.00

The exact Salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience and location.
