About this positionSeeScan is seeking a Quality Engineering & Inspection Manager to lead our incoming material and mechanical inspection team and to own how we decide whether parts are good. This is a hands-on leadership role with real ownership: you will set clear, documented acceptance criteria, make and defend accept/reject decisions with suppliers, buyers, and engineering, and build the processes that make those decisions consistent no matter who is at the bench. You will also own and mature our metrology program.
You will work as a close partner to our Quality Manager, who is focused on developing our Quality Management System, and with Engineering, Product Management, and Purchasing. You will have significant autonomy in shaping how inspection and measurement work across the department.
This is a fully onsite position located in Kearny Mesa.
CompensationThe salary range for our Quality Engineering & Inspection Manager position is
$100,000 to $135,000 annually.
This range represents a good faith estimate based on the qualifications we expect to find in a successful candidate. Actual compensation offered may be less or greater than this estimate based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, our assessment of your ability to bring value to our organization.
We offer - A position within an established company that has over 40 years of experience
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Traditional and Roth 401(k) investment options, with partial company matching contribution
- Flexible Paid Time Off plan with no cap or "use it or lose it" requirement
In your application, include your resume and a thoughtful cover letter explaining why you are the ideal candidate for this position. We are looking for a long-term, in-house teammate to join us, not a contractor or consultant.
In this position, you will - Lead the incoming material and mechanical inspection team, setting clear expectations, priorities, and performance standards, and coaching inspectors to apply acceptance criteria consistently
- Own the nonconforming material process: how suspect parts are documented, reviewed, and dispositioned, including a material review step with Engineering, Product Management, and Purchasing for cosmetic and borderline cases
- Establish written acceptance criteria and reference samples for cosmetic and visual inspection (finishes, coatings, molded and machined surfaces), so decisions don't depend on one person's eye
- Make sure every rejection that leaves the building is clear, evidence-based, and tied to a drawing or specification, with photos and measurements a supplier can act on
- Serve as the quality point of contact for suppliers on rejections and disputes, working with Purchasing to resolve issues and drive supplier corrective action
- Own and mature SeeScan's metrology program, including calibration systems, measurement system analysis (gauge R&R), and equipment and method selection
- Root-cause measurement discrepancies, quality escapes, and recurring supplier problems, and drive systemic corrective action
- Lead by example on the bench, personally performing measurement and inspection and raising the skill level of the technicians around you
Your background - BS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 5+ years in quality engineering, metrology, or inspection in an electro-mechanical or precision manufacturing environment
- Experience leading, supervising, or organizing an inspection or quality team
- Hands-on experience dispositioning nonconforming material (MRB or equivalent) and writing acceptance criteria
- Experience working directly with suppliers on quality issues, rejections, and corrective action
- Skilled in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and reading engineering drawings
- Personally skilled with precision measurement tools and techniques (CMM, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and similar) and comfortable performing inspections yourself
- Sound judgment and the confidence to make and explain accept/reject decisions to engineers, buyers, and suppliers
- Strong organizational and process-development skills, with a track record of creating structure where none previously existed
- Comfortable working autonomously and setting priorities with limited day-to-day direction
Preferred qualifications - ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar credential
- Experience with cosmetic and finish inspection (powder coat, paint, anodize, plating, molded plastics)
- Experience in electronics or hardware manufacturing
- Six Sigma, Lean, or other continuous improvement credential
- Experience standing up a quality function, team, or process area from an early stage
Notes - No recruiters, contractors, or consultants, please
- No relocation assistance or visa sponsorships available for this position
