Full Job Description
Quality Assurance / Software Test Engineer, Intermediate

Government Client | Remote

Overview:

Softtek Government Solutions is seeking an Intermediate Quality Assurance / Software Test Engineer to support digital transformation initiatives. The engineer will serve as a hands-on member of an Agile software delivery team. Role is responsible for setting up automated test environment, testing modernized mobile applications, implementing automated tests, documenting defects, and supporting phased expansion of the client mobile test automation capabilities.

The selected candidate will work within an established QA and automation organization. A Test Automation Architect owns the overarching automation vision, framework design, standards, and technical direction. This position is responsible for building, extending, and maintaining automated tests and supporting framework components in alignment with that established architecture. This role is focused primarily on testing native iOS and Android mobile applications, including Flutter-based cross-platform applications. Responsive web application testing may be included as a secondary component of the role, but hands-on native mobile testing experience remains the primary evaluation criterion. Candidates should have active, hands-on mobile testing experience and should have built or substantially extended test automation frameworks, not merely operated an existing automated test suite.

  • Three native mobile applications are currently in scope, with automation build-out planned in phases rather than all applications simultaneously.
  • Primary application stack is Flutter, a widget-based cross-platform mobile framework.
  • Some applications include native Swift-only iOS components or applications.
  • Android applications distributed through the Google Play Store are also in scope.
  • Java-based testing tooling is expected, including Selenium, JMeter, and JUnit.
  • Jira is used for user stories, acceptance criteria, defect tracking, sprint execution, and test documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform hands-on testing of native iOS and Android mobile applications, with emphasis on Flutter-based applications and mobile user workflows.
  • Design, build, extend, and maintain automated testing frameworks and scripts using Java-based tooling, including Selenium, JMeter, and JUnit.
  • Implement automated functional, integration, regression, and performance-oriented tests according to the established automation architecture.
  • Collaborate with the Test Automation Architect to ensure automated tests align with framework design, coding standards, maintainability goals, and phased automation priorities.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and defect triage activities.
  • Review user stories and acceptance criteria to ensure requirements are testable and that test cases trace to defined business outcomes.
  • Create and maintain test cases, test documentation, automation artifacts, execution results, and defect evidence.
  • Document defects in Jira with clear reproduction steps, expected versus actual results, severity, impact, supporting evidence, and linkage to the applicable user story or acceptance criteria.
  • Conduct manual and exploratory testing to identify defects beyond scripted test cases, with a focus on severity, user impact, and mission impact.
  • Work with developers, product owners, business stakeholders, and other QA team members to validate fixes and support timely release decisions.
  • Participates in occasional rotational on-call duties.

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information technology (IT), or a related discipline

Required Experience:

  • At least 5 years of professional software quality assurance or software testing experience.
  • Active, hands-on experience testing native mobile applications for iOS and Android.
  • Experience testing Dart/Flutter-based mobile applications.
  • Strong familiarity with testing widget-based cross-platform mobile application architectures.
  • Demonstrated experience building or substantially extending test automation frameworks, not solely executing scripts in an existing automated test suite.
  • Experience working within CI/CD-integrated environments, with automated tests feeding into existing build/deployment pipelines. CI/CD pipeline design and administration is owned by a separate DevOps function and is not a responsibility of this role.
  • Experience with Java-based test automation tooling, including Selenium, JMeter, and JUnit.
  • Experience using Jira for Agile execution, defect tracking, test documentation, and traceability to user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum delivery practices and sprint-based software development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain defects, severity, business impact, and technical findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to distinguish between government supervisory contacts and the contractor management chain, and to follow appropriate communication protocols within a federal contracting environment.
  • Experience supporting federal government clients or mission-focused government IT programs.

Required Clearance:
  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a Public Trust suitability determination.
  • Active / prior CBP suitability is preferred

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with mobile application release and validation activities involving Apple App Store and Google Play Store distributed applications.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced delivery environment with tight timelines and high accountability expectations.
  • Proactive bug-hunting mindset, including the ability to go beyond scripts, identify edge cases, track down answers, and document findings thoroughly.
