Job Description:
Basic Function: The Protection & Control (P&C) Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of protection and control systems for electrical power projects. This role ensures high-quality engineering deliverables, compliance with standards, and timely execution of projects. The P&C Engineer collaborates with project managers, customers, and cross-functional teams to deliver innovative and reliable solutions.
Key responsibilities for engineering include, but are not limited to, the following:
The Protection & Control Engineer is responsible for developing and design as related to protection & control, for all types of Customers.
Design & Engineering
- Design and Develop protection and control schemes for substations and power systems.
- Prepare engineering documentation including design criteria, schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay settings.
- Review and validate vendor equipment specifications and technical documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with national standards, customer requirements, and best practices.
Project Execution
- Coordinate technical activities throughout the project lifecycle, including design, testing, and commissioning.
- Support project managers with technical input for proposals, cost estimates, and risk assessments.
- Monitor project progress to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, and budget.
- Resolve engineering and design issues with a focus on safety, quality, and compliance.
Testing & Commissioning
- Perform relay testing, SCADA integration, and communication protocol verification (Modbus, DNP3, GOOSE).
- Utilize advanced test equipment (DOBLE, OMICRON) for system validation.
- Prepare detailed test plans and reports for customer approval.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Conduct meetings with customers to discuss design modifications and system optimization.
- Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
- Build strong relationships with clients and offer recommendations for improved system performance.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with sales, marketing, and engineering teams to provide technical expertise.
- Mentor junior engineers and share best practices within the team.
- Participate in technical training and continuous improvement initiatives.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all engineering activities adhere to company health, safety, and environmental policies.
- Promote a culture of safety and integrity across all project phases.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in protection and control engineering for power systems.
- Knowledge of protective relays, SCADA systems, and communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, GOOSE).
- Familiarity with substation automation and high-voltage equipment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience with engineering tools and test equipment (DOBLE, OMICRON).
- Professional Engineering license or certification preferred.
