Job Purpose

The Segment Engineer is a technical expert responsible for supporting the design, selection, and application of rental equipment solutions-including mechanical, fluid dynamics, and power systems-for customers across diverse industries. This role bridges the gap between sales, engineering, and operations, ensuring that customer requirements are translated into safe, efficient, and reliable solutions. The Segment Engineer collaborates with internal teams and external partners to deliver technical proposals, perform system assessments, and provide ongoing support throughout the project lifecycle.

Expected to travel 50% of the time

This position can be located anywhere near a large airport

What you will do...

• Partner with sales and project teams to develop technical proposals and solutions for rental projects involving mechanical, fluid, and power systems.
• Design, size, and recommend equipment configurations based on customer requirements and site conditions.
• Prepare engineering drawings, AutoCAD models, and technical documentation for proposed solutions.
• Provide application engineering support before and after sales, including system integration recommendations and troubleshooting.
• Conduct site assessments and recommend equipment setups to ensure reliability and efficiency.
• Lead equipment testing, commissioning, and validation to meet performance and safety standards.
• Develop and deliver technical training for internal teams and customers on equipment operation, safety, and best practices.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, application guides, and support materials.
• Work closely with sales, engineering, and operations teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Support OEM and partner relationships by streamlining technical design and support communications.
• Perform calculations (fan, hydraulic, coil, heat load, etc.) and data analysis to validate system performance.
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards (NFPA, IEEE, etc.), and company policies.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, equipment selection, and customer support.
• Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline)
• 3 - 5 years of experience in applications engineering, preferably in the rental equipment industry.
• Preferred experience in mechanical, fluid dynamics, and/or power generation or load bank systems engineering.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD (Inventor Suite), engineering drawings, and technical calculations.
• Professional Engineering (PE) License preferred but not required

• Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and project management skills.

• Ability to travel to customer sites as needed.

• Experience with technical training and documentation development.
• Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (NFPA, IEEE, etc.).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; CAD or systems design software is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.
• Effective collaboration across sales, engineering, and operations.
• Ability to build trust and lasting relationships with customers and partners.

Pay Range: $100,000 - $130,000 + bonus + vehicle
