Overview

Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Project to Senior GIS and Environmental Data Professional in our Blue Bell or Pittsburgh, PA offices.  Hybrid work options are available. The position will apply your academic knowledge and solid understanding and experience with standard practices and techniques used when working with data and GIS projects to support and manage projects that include routing and siting, environmental permitting, water resources, geotechnical construction, and more. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and manage, mentor, and develop project staff;
  • Compiling, verifying, analyzing, and reporting large and diverse datasets. Application of statistical models for quantitative analysis to support route and site selection studies;
  • Developing comprehensive workflows and metadata to automate compilation of data from multiple sources and serve data to maps, reports and other tools;
  • Designing, developing, and producing data visualization outputs using ArcGIS;
  • Interacting with internal and external providers to coordinate collection and transfer of data to project databases;
  • Collection, manipulation, and analysis of databases and GIS data;
  • Designing GIS projects using ESRI ArcGIS software used to store, visualize, and analyze spatial data;
  • Manage environmental data in EQuIS, including data loading, review, reporting, and integration with GIS;
  • Use and understanding of geographic positioning system (GPS) equipment for data collection, including use of mobile software solutions to facilitate data collection;
  • Manage GIS and data-management projects, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client communication;
  • Participation in client-needs analysis; and developing current knowledge of GIS/database technology and software; and
  • Interacting with internal and external clients to support data management and visualization for electric transmission planning, environmental permitting, environmental engineering, and oil and gas/energy, and geoscience projects.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in geography, computer science, earth sciences or related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 7 years (8+ preferred) of experience in database technology and GIS, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing technical staff and supporting employee growth and career development. (required)
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS and/or EQuIS software ecosystems, including environmental and spatial data management, analysis, visualization, reporting, automation, and integration across desktop, web, mobile, enterprise, and cloud-based applications (required).
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary environmental, engineering, and infrastructure projects. (preferred)
  • Ability to write complex queries and automate routine processes (e.g., VBA and SQL). Ability to automate processes using scripts (e.g., Python). (preferred)
  • Knowledge of server architecture and web technology. (preferred)
  • Experience with the front-end processes of collecting field data with various GPS units and the process of downloading and compiling the data. (preferred)
  • Understanding and use of Graphic Design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). (preferred)
  • Direct experience managing environmental, geologic, and geotechnical data collection. (preferred)
  • Knowledge of laboratory analytical data verification and validation processes. (preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Interaction with clients, regulators, and community members at public open house meetings may be required.
  • Field work and overnight travel may be required
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
