Project Manager - Trenchless/Crossings - Project Management | US or Canada | Full-Time - ID# 7278We are seeking a
Project Manager - Trenchless/Crossings to support our growing team in
the US or Canada (location TBD). In this role, you'll play a key part in driving project excellence, collaborating with industry leaders, and ensuring high-quality outcomes across complex initiatives.
Role & ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will:
- Serve as the Project Manager and subject matter expert (SME) for trenchless and crossing scopes on major pipeline projects, including horizontal directional drilling (HDD), direct pipe, microtunnelling, and bore crossings.
- Lead and manage crossing programs from concept through construction and closeout, including feasibility, method selection, design coordination, contractor procurement, and execution.
- Evaluate crossing methods and constructability, and provide technical guidance on geotechnical conditions, drill path and alignment design, pull-back loads, and risk mitigation.
- Manage and direct engineering, geotechnical, permitting, and environmental consultants and specialty trenchless contractors.
- Review and challenge contractor plans, schedules, and means and methods, including drilling fluid management, contingency (e.g., frac-out) planning, and inadvertent return response.
- Coordinate permitting and stakeholder requirements for crossings of rivers, wetlands, highways, railways, and existing utilities, including regulator, landowner, and third-party interfaces.
- Own the crossing program strategy, register, and risk-based tiering.
- Define the procurement and contracting strategy for specialty contractors: packaging, prequalification, market and rig capacity.
- Identify, assess, and track risks, issues, and dependencies, and escalate as required; support change management, cost forecasting, and resource planning for crossing scopes.
- Support program governance and executive reporting, promote safety and compliance on all crossing activities, and contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement.
Qualifications / RequirementsTo succeed in this role, you bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, or Geotechnical preferred), Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- 12+ years of project management experience on major pipeline or linear infrastructure projects, with 8+ years focused on trenchless and crossing work.
- Strong technical background in trenchless methods, including HDD, direct pipe, microtunnelling, and bore crossings (e.g., auger bore, guided bore).
- Demonstrated experience managing large crossing programs on major pipeline projects, ideally with large-diameter crude and/or NGL pipelines.
- Experience working with or for a specialty trenchless or tunnelling contractor is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of geotechnical investigation, crossing design and risk assessment, and permitting and regulatory requirements for water, road, and rail crossings.
- Proven ability to act as the PM and SME, with the credibility to guide contractors, engineers, and client leadership on crossing strategy and execution.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, SharePoint, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- PMP certification preferred.
