Duties

The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for two Project Managers within our Facilities Design & Construction department. The Project Manager reports to the Director of Design & Construction, and is a salaried, professional position that will be filled by candidates with an engineering, architecture, construction management (or related) educational background and/or hands-on experience in the review of commercial project design and construction management of commercial projects. They will work with consultant architects, engineers, State University Construction Fund (SUCF) staff and contractors as well as campus designers, project managers, energy/sustainability staff and campus clients on the design and construction management of campus projects.

The Project Manager will offer feedback to support the best possible design solutions, keeping within budget, while minimizing the negative impacts of construction on campus operations. Based on experience, project assignments could include comprehensively scoped, MEP/FP-oriented, or site projects.

Duties:

  • Manage designated building/site projects from design phase through construction and closeout, including budget and schedule tracking, and project contract administration (RFIs, submittals, change orders, payment applications, closeout documentation).
  • Develop minor project design & construction documents under supervision of senior design staff.
  • Provide pre-design support for major capital projects including sharing of archival campus documents and coordinating consultant site access, and constructability review.
  • Observe and report back to campus stakeholders on construction progress of SUCF-managed projects.
  • Maintain department archives after project closeout, upkeep of campus standard documents and master building & site plans.
  • Keep sustainability in mind during all stages of projects and help the campus realize it's carbon reduction goals.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field with minimum 3 years' experience working in commercial building design and/or construction OR Associate's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field is required with minimum five (5) years' experience working in commerical building design and/or construction OR Relevant construction management experience of at least eight (8) years managing multi-trade, large-value commercial capital construction projects from bid through project completion.
  • Deep knowledge of industry standards and NYS building codes.
  • Demonstrated experience with institutional and/or commercial building construction management.
  • Ability to comprehend construction drawings and specifications and prepare pertinent review comments.
  • An ability to collaborate productively with multidisciplinary team members, consultant groups and stakeholders on a variety of concurrent projects.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)


Preferred qualifications:

  • NYS Code Enforcement Official certification
  • Proficiency with CAD, BIM and/or GIS software.
  • Estimating and project scheduling experience
  • Specification writing/reviewing experience
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and NFPA standards
  • Working knowledge of OSHA/ PESH regulations
