This opportunity is focused on leading routine, multi-disciplinary engineering capital projects from planning through closeout within a refining and petrochemical environment. The role will support projects such as pump replacements, equipment repairs and upgrades, and piping projects, with involvement in FEL, contracting strategy, cost and schedule management, risk management, and project closeout. This company is seeking a technically strong project professional with refinery experience who can lead engineering and construction activity tied to major turnaround planning.
Required Education: - Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering
Required Experience: - 10 or more years of project management experience in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry
- 5 or more years of experience as a Project Manager with sole accountability for the project
- Experience leading routine, multi-disciplinary engineering capital projects from planning through closeout
- Experience managing engineering and construction contractors and multiple project teams
- Refinery experience supporting capital projects and turnaround preparation
Required Skills: - Strong general mechanical or civil/structural engineering background
- Ability to assemble and lead a full-time project team to execute capital projects effectively
- Experience preparing and implementing Project Execution Plans
- Ability to lead FEL processes, complete gate reviews, and secure management approvals
- Capability to develop contracting strategy and manage contractor evaluation, bid, and award activities
- Strong cost, schedule, procurement, and billing payables management capability
- Ability to interview and approve contractor personnel
- Strong understanding of contracts and contractor performance management, including cost control, claims minimisation, and change order management
- Ability to establish project facilities at site and in contractor offices
- Strong safety leadership and ability to set project safety expectations
- Ability to engage Operations and Maintenance personnel and define responsibilities clearly
- Experience ensuring schedules are issued, reviewed, and used to drive project performance
- Ability to maintain cost estimate accuracy and monthly cash flow forecasts
- Experience managing vendors, fabricators, and specialty contractors
- Commitment to quality processes and project KPI and metric management
- Ability to lead risk management planning and deliver presentations to stakeholders
- Ability to close out projects in a timely and efficient manner
- Working knowledge of industry recommended practices, design methods, and QA/QC requirements
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, industry standards, and DOT requirements
Preferred Qualifications: - 10 or more years of project management experience in refining and/or petrochemical environments
- 10 or more years of experience as a Project Manager with sole accountability for the project
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
