Project Manager | Hydrogeology

We are actively seeking a Project Manager | Hydrogeology in our Harrisburg, Lancaster or York, PA offices. As a Project Manager | Hydrogeology with HRG, you will lead complex groundwater resource, water supply, environmental, and hydrogeologic projects that help communities secure sustainable water resources and address critical environmental challenges. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine technical hydrogeology expertise with project leadership while collaborating with engineers, planners, environmental scientists, GIS specialists, and water resource professionals on meaningful projects throughout the region. Ideal candidates will possess experience supporting groundwater supply development, water allocation permitting, aquifer testing, groundwater modeling, and hydrogeologic investigations for municipal, industrial, utility, and environmental clients. Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead groundwater resource, hydrogeologic, environmental, and water supply projects through all phases of planning, investigation, permitting, and implementation
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client experience while ensuring successful project delivery
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, regulatory agencies, municipalities, and project stakeholders
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers, environmental scientists, GIS specialists, planners, contractors, and technical staff
  • Conduct hydrogeological investigations, including drilling oversight, geophysical survey oversight, and water sampling
  • Analyze geological and hydrological data to develop groundwater flow and aquifer conceptual models
  • Design and implement monitoring programs to evaluate groundwater levels, quality, and movement
  • Develop aquifer testing plans and evaluate the results, including complex datasets
  • Assess the impact of human activities, land-use changes, and climate variability on groundwater systems
  • Develop strategies for groundwater management and conservation, including remediation of contaminated sites
  • Prepare hydrogeologic and technical reports, presentations, and proposals for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies
  • Work closely with senior staff to review findings and refine project approaches
  • Coordinate with government agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and support policy development
  • Engage with local communities and stakeholders through public outreach initiatives
  • Partner with drilling contractors, laboratory technicians, and equipment suppliers for field investigations
  • Contribute to business development through client relationship management, proposal development, technical presentations, and identification of growth opportunities
  • Mentor and develop staff while promoting collaboration, knowledge sharing, and technical excellence


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related technical field
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license preferred; Geologist-in-Training (GIT) designation may be considered depending on experience
  • Typically, 5+ years of experience in hydrogeology, groundwater resources, environmental consulting, or a related technical field, including project management responsibility
  • Experience with hydrogeologic investigations, groundwater monitoring, groundwater supply development, aquifer testing, and environmental permitting
  • Strong understanding of groundwater flow principles, aquifer properties, well design, aquifer testing design, contaminant transport processes, and water chemistry
  • Experience with field techniques such as drilling supervision, geophysical survey observation, and aquifer testing
  • Experience with water allocation permitting, groundwater withdrawal permitting, regulatory agency coordination, municipal authorities, and water utility projects preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships, project budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize and interpret complex data
  • Collaborative mindset for working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with environmental legislation governing groundwater resources
  • Familiarity with hydrogeological modeling software (e.g., MODFLOW and similar) and GIS tools
  • Effective utilization of common business platforms such as Microsoft Office Suite, virtual meeting tools, project management systems, etc.
  • Flexibility to travel to job sites, meetings, and other offices as necessary, which may include overnight stays
  • Valid US Driver's License is required
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
