POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Manager, Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) is responsible for leading the mobilization, deployment, and execution of Alaska Communications' Fixed Wireless broadband expansion initiatives.

This role serves as the central point of coordination across Network Planning, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Regulatory, Product and Commercial teams to ensure successful delivery of FWA deployments and related broadband infrastructure projects.

 

The Project Manager will drive end-to-end execution of network expansion initiatives, including deployment readiness, site development, construction coordination, vendor management, capital execution, workforce mobilization, subscriber activation readiness, and performance tracking.

 

The position is responsible for managing schedules, budgets, risks, dependencies, and stakeholder communication while ensuring alignment across engineering, permitting, construction, operational, and grant-funded workstreams, including applicable BEAD-funded projects.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

Program Leadership

  • Serve as the primary program manager for Fixed Wireless Access deployment initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain integrated execution plans, schedules, milestones, risks, and dependencies.
  • Establish and manage governance processes, status reporting, issue escalation, and executive communications.
  • Coordinate execution activities across internal teams, contractors, and external partners.
  • Ensure network expansion initiatives are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with approved objectives, budgets, and timelines.
  • Drive accountability for execution milestones, deliverables, and deployment outcomes.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Partner with the Network Planning and Engineering teams to translate approved network designs into executable deployment plans.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Service Delivery, and Customer Care teams to ensure operational readiness.
  • Work closely with Finance and Procurement teams to support budget tracking, forecasting, vendor management, and capital execution.
  • Ensure alignment across engineering, permitting, construction, deployment, and operational workstreams.
  • Coordinate with Product, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Care teams to ensure commercial readiness for new market launches, including offer availability, go-to-market activities, channel enablement, customer communications, operational support processes, and subscriber activation readiness.
  • Facilitate decision-making across stakeholders to resolve competing priorities, resource constraints, and execution risks.

 

Portfolio Coordination & Program Support

  • Coordinate with Network Planning, Engineering, and Program Leadership teams to ensure successful execution of approved deployment initiatives.
  • Support development of deployment schedules, resource requirements, implementation sequencing, and readiness plans.
  • Maintain awareness of future expansion initiatives and dependencies that may impact current execution activities.
  • Support grant-funded initiatives, including BEAD and other broadband funding programs, as applicable.
  • Drive continuous improvement through deployment lessons learned and execution best practices.

SKILLS & ABILITIES


Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Telecommunications, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.


Experience:

  • Five (5) years of project management experience leading complex cross-functional programs or infrastructure deployment projects.
  • Three (3) + years of experience in telecommunications, broadband, wireless, fiber, or network infrastructure deployment programs.
  • Experience supporting Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), wireless network deployments, broadband expansion initiatives, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and project management software such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Jira, or similar platforms

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP (Project Management Professional), PMI-ACP, or similar project management certification.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications construction, permitting, site development, network deployment, and operational readiness processes.
  • Experience working with grant-funded programs, including BEAD, broadband infrastructure funding initiatives, or federally funded projects.
  • Experience collaborating with Network Planning, Engineering, Operations, Product, Sales, and Customer Care organizations.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Experience working in geographically diverse or remote deployment environments, including coordination of field resources and contractors.
