Position Summary

The Electrical & Controls Project Engineer is responsible for supporting maintenance and capital projects through the design, development, and implementation of electrical and control systems. This role oversees electrical design activities, AutoCAD drawing creation and review, construction supervision, and technical evaluations of work completed by both internal teams and external service providers. The position also ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Budget Management
  • Assess electrical and controls requirements for maintenance and capital projects.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and execution plans.
  • Manage project budgets and monitor project expenditures.
  • Track and report project progress, milestones, and overall workload status.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that optimize project performance and cost efficiency.


Electrical & Controls Engineering Design
  • Lead the design and development of electrical and control systems for maintenance and capital projects.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and technical documentation.
  • Create and maintain AutoCAD drawings and related project deliverables.
  • Provide technical support for regional maintenance operations and troubleshooting activities.
  • Ensure designs align with operational requirements and engineering best practices.


Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure all engineering designs, drawings, and project activities comply with applicable safety standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews and continuous improvement programs.
  • Conduct field inspections, site visits, and construction reviews to verify design compliance and quality standards.
  • Support the identification and mitigation of operational and project-related risks.


Contractor & Resource Management
  • Manage relationships with external contractors, consultants, and service providers.
  • Prepare bid packages and coordinate vendor selection processes.
  • Administer contracts and oversee contractor performance.
  • Review and approve technical work completed by internal and external resources.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades, process improvements, and technology solutions to improve reliability and efficiency.


Strategic Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Contribute to strategic planning and long-term capital improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders, customers, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations to support operational and business objectives.


Qualifications

Education
  • Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma, Journeyperson Electrician certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional engineering designation considered an asset.


Experience
  • Minimum of six (6) years of electrical field experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of project management experience.
  • Experience in grain handling, food processing, or bulk material handling industries is preferred.


Required Knowledge & Skills

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and electrical drawing development.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, controls, and industrial automation.
  • Experience using spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and project management software.
  • Ability to review technical specifications, engineering documents, and construction drawings.
