The Opportunity

As a Senior Project Manager supporting Hitachi Energy's North America Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) business within Grid Integration, you will play a key role in delivering large, complex EPC projects that help improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency of power networks while minimizing environmental impact. This position is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, operating on a hybrid work schedule, and full relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates. In this role, you will manage projects from contract award through commercial operation, coordinating cross-functional teams, customers, suppliers, and stakeholders to achieve project goals related to schedule, budget, quality, and safety. You will guide project execution planning, financial performance, risk management, contract administration, procurement coordination, customer engagement, and project closeout activities. This is an opportunity to work on energy storage projects serving a range of applications, including utility-scale and behind-the-meter deployments, while expanding your experience within a growing segment of the power industry. Your contributions will directly support reliable grid operations, energy transition initiatives, and the successful execution of complex infrastructure projects that shape the future of the power system.


How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Develop and manage project execution plans, scope, schedules, resource plans, goals, and deliverables.
  • Own project financial performance, including budgets, forecasts, cash flow, margins, and project health tracking.
  • Lead risk and opportunity management activities to support successful project outcomes.
  • Manage project scope, changes, claims, negotiations, and approvals in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Partner with Supply Chain teams on procurement strategies, subcontracting activities, bid evaluations, and awards.
  • Serve as the primary customer contact and provide project reporting that promotes effective communication and customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate project quality activities, address non-conformities, and support internal and external audits.
  • Work closely with EHS teams to develop and enforce project-specific safety plans throughout project execution.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, or Construction Management.
  • 8+ years of experience managing large, multi-faceted electrical projects, including large or mega projects.
  • Experience working with different contractual models.
  • Solid financial and commercial management skills.
  • Proficiency with SAP, MS Project, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including experience coordinating multinational and remote teams; willingness to travel 25% or more domestically and internationally.
  • Knowledge of BESS project delivery and familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards, including IEEE 1547/2800, NEC, NFPA 855, UL 9540/9540A, and AHJ permitting processes.
  • Substation, switchyard, or brownfield project experience a plus
