Operations Opportunity: Project Executive

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are currently looking for a Project Executive to join our Operations team, with a preference for a candidate based near our Granite City, IL headquarters; however, we are also open to candidates based near one of our office locations or elsewhere in the U.S., provided they are willing to travel to our offices and jobsites approximately 60-70% of the time. This newly created senior leadership role provides oversight to Project Directors, Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and assigned project teams, helping align project execution, client relationships, and business growth across an assigned area or division. Our ideal candidate is a strategic, relationship-driven construction leader with progressive experience overseeing complex mechanical construction projects and developing high-performing teams.

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Project Executive leads an assigned portfolio that includes multiple Project Directors, Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and large-scale projects with a combined value that may exceed $500M. This role sets expectations, measures results, supports business development and project planning, and drives team alignment and talent development to ensure consistent execution across the portfolio.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Lead and champion a culture of safety by promoting company safety initiatives, supporting risk mitigation efforts, and fostering accountability across project teams.
  • Provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and oversight to Project Managers and project teams, ensuring alignment with company standards, client expectations, and project objectives.
  • Oversee the successful execution of assigned projects by maintaining visibility into project scope, schedule, resource utilization, risk management, and overall project performance.
  • Partner with Preconstruction and Estimating teams during project pursuits, planning efforts, and project startup to position projects for long-term success.
  • Drive financial performance across a portfolio of projects by monitoring profitability, cash flow, forecasting, productivity, and cost-management initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, owners, general contractors, and industry partners to support exceptional project outcomes and long-term business growth.
  • Support business development efforts by identifying new opportunities, contributing to pursuit strategies, expanding market presence, and promoting icon's capabilities and services.
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop high-performing team members while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop strategic initiatives, optimize processes, align resources, and support the organization's long-term growth objectives.
  • Travel to company office locations and jobsites as needed, with anticipated travel of approximately 60-70%.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • 15+ years of progressive construction leadership experience within mechanical construction, construction management, project management, or a related industry, including at least 3-5 years managing multiple project managers and projects simultaneously; experience with data center, mission-critical, emerging technology,
  • power, or large capital projects are preferred.Proven success overseeing large, complex construction projects valued at $200M+ while balancing safety, schedule, financial performance, client expectations, and operational objectives.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including experience managing project profitability, forecasting, cost controls, and overall project performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, general contractors, industry partners, and cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and team development skills, with a track record of coaching, mentoring, and developing high-performing professionals.
  • Experience leading project teams, managing priorities across multiple projects, and driving accountability at all levels of an organization.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred; DBIA (Design-Build Institute of America), LEED, or similar industry credentials are a plus.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred; Professional Engineering (PE) License and/or State Contractor License are a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Viewpoint, or similar platforms.
