Full Job Description
We9re seeking a Project Engineer to join our Government Solutions team serving public agency clients throughout the Bay Area. Based in the Richmond area, this role will support the delivery of transportation and capital improvement projects (CIP), including roadway, complete streets, multimodal, and municipal infrastructure improvements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in civil engineering design and experience working on public infrastructure projects. In this role, you9ll collaborate with project managers, agency staff, and multidisciplinary teams to support all phases of project delivery, from planning and design through bidding and construction support. Candidates should be comfortable applying standard engineering principles, preparing technical plans and specifications, coordinating with stakeholders, and managing project tasks with increasing levels of independence.

This position offers the opportunity to work directly with public agency clients, contribute to projects that improve local communities, and continue developing technical, project management, and leadership skills within a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design and coordination of transportation infrastructure projects including roadways, corridors, roundabouts, curbs, retaining walls, overpasses, transit facilities, and ADA curb ramps
  • Design and coordination of traffic engineering projects including signal design, pavement marking/striping, signage, and multimodal corridor improvements
  • Preparation of geometric design plans and profiles in compliance with Caltrans, local, and regional standards
  • Development of grading, drainage, and stormwater management plans for transportation corridors
  • Design of transportation-related utility systems and coordination with public agencies and utility providers
  • Development of quantity takeoffs and cost estimates
  • Integration of multimodal and sustainable design elements such as complete streets, green infrastructure, and ADA compliance
  • Apply Federal, State (e.g. Caltrans), City, and County codes
  • Preparation of conceptual design studies and alternatives analyses for roadway and multimodal improvements

Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in transportation engineering, with a focus on the design and development of roadway systems, multimodal corridors, roundabouts, curbs, signal design, signing/striping, traffic control, transit facilities, etc.
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience wth SignCAD, AGI 32, or Synchro/Simtraffic is highly desirable
  • EIT certification is highly preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners, including public agencies, consultants, and community stakeholders
  • Occasional travel required between BKF offices and client site


Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.

Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.

  • The typical base salary range for this position is $99,000.00 - $135,000.00, annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
