PROJECT ENGINEER

POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing engineering and capital projects from conception through completion. This position ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and company requirements.

This is a hands-on engineering role that combines technical project development with execution on the production floor. The Project Engineer will partner closely with operations, maintenance, contractors, vendors, and leadership to successfully implement equipment and process improvements that support the continued growth and performance of the Leetsdale operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage capital and expense projects from initiation through commissioning and closeout.
• Serve as a technical subject matter expert for newly installed equipment.
• Lead hands-on engineering projects from technical development and planning through installation and execution on the production floor.
• Develop project scopes, specifications, schedules and work breakdown structures (WBS), budgets, resource plans, communication plans, and change management plans.
• Build and lead high-performing cross-functional project teams.
• Monitor project performance against established schedules and budgets and provide regular updates to stakeholders and executive leadership.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide hands-on troubleshooting and technical direction to maintenance, operations, contractors, and other project partners as needed.
• Develop standard operating procedures for operations and maintenance as part of operational readiness planning and oversee related training.
• Support formal operational readiness and commissioning activities for new equipment and processes.
• Drive departmental performance against key project metrics, including on-time delivery, budget performance, and return on investment.
• Coordinate project activities across multiple departments and external contractors to ensure successful and timely execution.
• Incorporate safety into all aspects of project planning and execution and promote safe working conditions throughout installation and commissioning activities.
• Manage project procurement activities, including developing RFQ bid packages, obtaining and evaluating bids, making purchase recommendations, and preparing purchase requisitions.
• Research and recommend new technologies, equipment, and processes to support business and operational needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET/EAC-accredited university.
• 7-10 years of project management experience within a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience developing and leading capital projects, equipment installations, and implementation of new manufacturing processes.
• Experience managing projects ranging from approximately $1 million to $20 million and coordinating internal and external resources.
• Strong understanding of project management fundamentals, including scope development, specifications, design review, budgeting, scheduling/WBS, change management, commissioning, and operational readiness.
• Experience with Microsoft Project or equivalent project management software.
• Strong computer skills, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to effectively manage multiple project priorities.
• Metals or materials manufacturing experience preferred.
• Experience with hydraulic presses, hot rolling, cold rolling, metal extrusion or conforming, annealing, and/or melt furnaces is preferred.
• PMP certification is a plus.
• Knowledge of Front-End Loading (FEL) project development processes is a plus.
• Experience with formal commissioning and operational readiness processes, including IQ/OQ/PQ, is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is an onsite position based at our Leetsdale, PA manufacturing facility. Work is performed in an active industrial environment that may include exposure to moving mechanical equipment, varying temperatures, elevated noise levels, and heavy manufacturing activity.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly required to communicate effectively and may frequently walk, sit, and use their hands to handle materials or equipment. The position may occasionally require standing, reaching, and lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.
