GFT is seeking a Geotechnical Project Engineer to join our Dams & Hydraulics Team in Pittsburgh, PA! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Pittsburgh, PA office.

 

What you’ll be challenged to do:

As a Project Geotechnical Engineer at GFT you will lead geotechnical engineers and assist project managers in planning and overseeing subsurface explorations and performing analyses for transportation, facilities, water resources and other types of projects. 

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Lead geotechnical staff in planning and overseeing field explorations, construction projects, laboratory testing, geotechnical design and analysis of shallow and deep foundations, slope stability analyses of landslides, settlement estimates, design of earth retaining systems, and ground improvement assessments for complex sites.
  • Develop or review full design packages with geotechnical reports, calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates.
  • Provide technical directions to less tenured staff.
  • Work in a team environment providing geotechnical engineering services and leadership.
  • Lead geotechnical engineer and/or project manager for a wide variety of engineering projects supporting public and private sector clients.
  • Develop proposals and participate in other business development activities.
  • Assist senior staff in managing client relationships, including business and new client development to expand the scope of our existing services.
What you will bring to our firm: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
  • Master’s Degree with Geotechnical focus preferred.
  • 4 to 10 years of relevant working experience post-graduation.
  • A PA P.E. is required,
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, gINT, ALLPILE, GEO-SLOPE, GRLWEAP, LPILE, SLIDE, SHAFT, SETTLE3D software.
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally, including out of town at remote project sites, regional offices, and as required by the scope of the project.
  • Must be capable of lifting 30 pounds and traversing steep slopes and rough terrain.
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Must have current Driver’s License
  • Geotechnical experience with PennDOT required
Compensation:The salary range for this role is $94,000 - $125,000.
