Job Overview:

Weatherford has a great opportunity for a Project Engineer to join the Completion Team at Spencer Road, Houston TX.

As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for the design and development of downhole oil and gas completion tools from concept through finished product using 3D CREO CAD modeling. Perform design analysis, including complex stress analysis and FEA. Support hands-on prototype assembly and testing in a lab environment in accordance with API 11D1, API 19AC, and other applicable industry standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Exposure to Intelligent Completion products and operations.
  • Performs fundamental engineering tasks within the established Product Development Process. These tasks include but are not limited to:
    • Strength of material problems
    • Electromechanical products
    • Stress analysis
    • Torque
    • Tension
    • Burst
    • Collapse
    • Compression
    • Complexed statics and dynamics
    • Material selection
    • Cost estimation
    • Tolerance studies
  • Modify existing products to meet internal or external customer requirements.
  • Creates new engineering layouts for fit, form and function checking.
  • Prepares calculations and design packages as required to complete design reviews.
  • Prepares, checks and or directs the preparation of detailed drawings and layouts.
  • Coordinates the manufacture of prototypes.
  • Develop experimental test programs.
  • Builds test tools and test fixtures in the test lab.
  • Analyses test data to determine if the product meets predetermined technical specifications.
  • Participates in and understands the analysis of failures.
  • Prevents or eliminates defects in new or existing products.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of fundamental design tools such as threaded connections, seals, plated surfaces, heat treating, etc.
  • Performs advanced engineering tasks such as fluid dynamics, vibrations, etc.
  • Creates performance envelopes that show the limits of the tool to the customer.
  • Coordinates all activities associated with technical developments, scheduling, budgeting, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Proactively develops and communicates design guidelines for the department.

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 7 years of new product development design and validation experience, including work aligned with API 11D1 and API 19AC.
  • Experience performing stress analysis on thick- and thin-walled pressure vessels; project management skills are essential.
  • FEA experience.

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with API 19G1, 19G2, and 19G3.
  • Hydraulic and gas sealing experience.
  • Experience designing welded or heat-treated assemblies.
